Coherant GT UI Thread spikes & stuttering

I’m seeing odd spikes and periods of slowdown from Coherent GTUI Thread in the default 172 with no addons at all.

Game runs superbly for about 15 to 20 minutes, solid 70FPS (on a 14700k / 7900GRE) but suddenly, with no warning my framerate will half to 35FPS, Debug display shows that it’s Coherant GTUI Thread has gone from 7.2ms to 30+ms a frame, this is with no changes to camera or aircraft settings (i.e straight level flight on AP, camera forward default, no control input).

If I wait 5 minutes or so it clears up to all green in debug again for another 10 mins or so followed by another Coherant GTUI Thread spike.

It’s not ingame setting, I’ve tried every single possible setting on it’s lowest, even cockpit refresh and this performace drop is the same each time regardless of configuration.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

No Addons at all, vanilla install.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

Every flight, starting about 15 minutes into flight, clearing up after a few minutes and then re-occuring after a period of about 10-15 minutes.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Take off from EGBG (Leicester) in the default Asobo Cessna, 172 Set a height of 3000 ft and a Heading of 335deg and engage autopilot
  2. Turn on Display FPS from Debug, set camera view to default forward.
  3. Monitor Coherant GT UI Thread

YOUR SETTINGS

All setting tried from Low to Ultra, same behaviour exhibited

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?

No.

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?

[PC Only] Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version:

AMD - 24.12.1

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

Intel 14700K, 64GB Ram (DDR4) running off NVME Drive.

Comes and goes but this one was like clockwork. Any workaround? You see the spikes on the DEV FPS monitor.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

Regardless of dynamic settings, framerate lock, vsync, frame gen, off screen precaching (initially it was on medium with the same behavior) and even with the low end preset (2nd video), CoherentGTUI / Manipulators spikes cause constant stuttering even at high framerates.

Despite a fresh installation with preventive deletion of rolling cache, DX shaders, \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and \Steam\steamapps\common\MSFS2024

The community folder is empty except for the Simbrief planner.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Always and since SU3 beta, now on SU3 final.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Start the A320v2 cold and dark

  2. Insert a flight plan (videos are from a EHAM-EDDF flight)

  3. Taxi, takeoff and fly normally

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using:

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it? No, I just opened the developer mode to record the video but the stutters were there already

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use? RTX 5080

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

Thanks for letting me know I’m not alone having this issue. From the limited testings I have done (I didn’t manage to do many though), the problem seems to affect inibuilds aircraft more - at least the default A330 and the paid add-on A350 for me. But there is no such issue when I flew for example PMDG. And the issue happened to me more severely during descent - I mean just starting descent, not even close to final approach but the issue did persist till landing causing stuttering all the way.

It’s worth noting that the same iniBuilds aircraft (at least the A320v2 that I use daily) works flawlessly in MSFS though.

Hey mate, I think I managed to resolve the issue by following the instructions of IslandSimPilot in this video:

I think you can try clearing rolling cache, shader cache, and Scenery Index first. I did not do anything to the community folder when I tried, and the steps are already enough to do the trick to resolve the issue.

To be prudent I also cleared all streamed packages in the folder “StreamedPackages" (which should be located adjacent to / at the same level as the Community folder) to force re-streaming all the aircraft.

Hope that works for you too.

Thank you, just this morning I did a fresh Windows 11 installation and I will test it later.

Edit: same as before: great smoothness with GA planes, stutterfest with the A320 at large airports. I couldn’t even reach the runway because of the status of Asobo LFPG, in pathetic conditions since ages and never fixed.

This video is emblematic of the IFR experience offered by FS2024 (totally vanilla, empty community folder, default high-end preset with dynamic settings as suggested for my system):

After SU3 i have stutters too, which is like in MSFS 2020. Before SU3 was smooth and i was love 2024 for no stutters.

I7 9700F, GTX1660S, 32GB ram.

I have the exact same problem. For me it’s not playable because I get the stutters and audio cracklings frequently and that kills the immersion.

It’s sad because despite this problem I’ve very smooth framerates.

I hope Asobo will fix that asap. Fortunately, I didn’t buy the game. I’ll stick to the game pass version until alle the annoying performance issues are fixed.

If you have been able to find a solution to the problem in the meantime, I would be very grateful if you could let us know.

For me 2020 is butter smooth and 2024 is a stutter fest lol

Same here. The worse performance than MSFS2020 seems to be a bug logged on the developers forum but still not resolved.

And yes, it is killing airplanes that uses coherentGT for rendering the screens
