Not sure if this was discussed anywhere here but as most of you probably know Comcast is initiating a 1.2 TB/month date cap starting January 1. How will this affect the amount of data MSFS streams? Is there any reasonable chance that this cap could be regularly exceeded while flying the sim?
i stream tv practically all day and work from home and i regularly get close to using a terrabyte without any flights. I can usually get a couple shorter flights in (2-4 hours) without issue but i get nervous on long haul flights towards the end of the month. If you turn off photogrammetry, HD textures and other online features you should be okay. It’s actually getting to the point where i may just pay the extra for unlimited bandwidth, but thats again because i work from home
I pay the extra $50 per month for unlimited. We usually average 1.5 - 2.5 GB per month. We’re streaming constantly.
I am on 1TB limit with Comcast and I’m pushing it very close every month. Streaming services + MSFS updates/content + actual flying and I’m almost there, actually went over twice in 2020.
To our European friends. Do you guys also have a cap on used bandwidth with your ISPs?
In the UK with BT Broadband Fibre and no data cap.
yeah we got the short end of the stick. In fact the US is the only developed nation that still throttles speeds based on how much you pay. I believe in a free market economy as much as the next guy, but it’s a little absurd.
Internet won’t be throttled in the US when we adopt the metric system
It’s technically not “free market”. Telecom in North America is basically oligopolies. You have a couple of giant providers that agree with each other in private (and illegally) over exclusive territory rights. And where they share territory, they basically set up almost identical plans with the same pricing. And these large providers spend millions lobbying government to get laws passed in their favour. It squeezes out any smaller competition from even starting. And when the smaller competitors can get a foothold and offer better services at a better price, they end up being bought out by one of the big companies.
There’s no competition. It’s not “free market” at all.
.
Yes, then they force you to agree to arbitration and no class action lawsuits to get service.
i was putting it lightly and sarcastically but yeah you seem to get it otherwise…
