Community Folder Location will not change

Is there a a way of knowing MSFS2024 will load with wrong Community Folder location? This to save time loading it?

It’s not just MS Store. I’ve been having this issue since day 1 and I purchased mine through Steam.

This worked for me

Just installed 2024 standard on my sons laptop (MSI GL-75 Leopard 10SDR-011) and adding a new ‘Community folder’ went without a hitch.

Laptop has 32GB RAM and added a 2TB SATA SSD (D:) C: drive is 1TB SATA SSD

Same issue here. Custom community folder resets 7 out of 10 exits.

As long as you added the new Community folder on install,
you’re okay.

It can’t be moved after install.
Quit and new startup reverts the Community folder location to what
it was on install.

Mine has behaved itself for last 8 restarts.
Community folder pointed at on D drive, not default C.
The only thing ive changed is by NOT inquisitively clicking on browse button in cog option under Library.
Dont click on browse, just close it if looking unless it is pointing at wrong folder.

I assume you installed it to D:.

The issue being discussed is for users that try to change the Community folder location after install.

Yes thats correct.Mine was changing it back to default C from the chosen D. I have also recently had a CTD and after that it was originally also going back to C. But now,fow whatever reason, its sticking with D.
I used both methods, userconfig and Library option,to choose D. I guess im saying only stopping fiddling with the Library option and browse button has been the change i made that has - so far ! - stopped the problem.
Of course, this might not be the cause.

I can confirm – I too installed MSFS 2024 on my D:\ drive. My community folder remains in C:\ drive.

  1. I’ve changed it to the location I want it in the marketplace > community menus config and pointed it back to my D:\MSFS2024\COMMUNITY folder.
  2. A week later (just got back from holiday), I had a new update to the sim and now my community folder is back pointing to C: drive.

It shouldn’t be difficult. We’ve been able to install this anywhere we want in 2020, so why has this still not been solved/fixed?

Bought this via Windows Store.

What’s even more odd, I copied over my Fenix 320, 319, 321 folders from 2020 community to my new 2024 community folder, booted up sim: now the sim is pointing to the correct D:\ path to my community folder, but Fenix is no where to be found in my airplanes.

Check your Community folder that it doesn’t have another Community folder inside it. I did same in the first time and the path was D:MSFS 2024/Community/Community. This should also work, but you have to put your addons in than Community subfolder.

Point it straigh to D:/MSFS -folder, game then creates new Community folder inside it.

When you change the community path in Library (When MFS24 is running) then the new community folder will be created but it will be empty. What you have to do is, to install the addons again.

In my case i have for now only Navigraph and GSX PRO. I oppened Navigraph and it found the new community folder automaticaly, so i just hit INSTALL. The same with GSX PRO, i started the GSX launcher, and i click to relink or something like that, and then it found the new community folder and did the install of the mod.

Then i checked the new folder and yes everything is there. So it works fine…

PS: WHEN YOU CHANGE THE PATH, YOU HAVE TO MOVE YOUR ADDONS TOO OR REINSTALL THEM TO THE NEW PATH.

when i install Fenix before i change my community folder the liveries ive download was ok .Then when i change the folder and uninstall fenix and reinstal the only liveries i have was the fenix and the other liveries installed at a different folder and i dont see them in game
-I had install mfs2024 not at my boot drive

Did you verify your liveries? Make sure Fenix Livery manager knows where the liveries are.

Mine are in community folder
Picture below shows few liveries, since I tested in game what is the folder and that they work.

Yes i found this as well. Path must be D:\MSFS2020 but no community folder text added to this path. Mine working fine now and not resetting.

Cheers, that was the issue. Thank you!

When you quit to desktop and start FS2024 again, the Community folder
reverts back to where it was installed.

The C: (or boot) address is a Symbolic Link (Junction) for the
physical location.

Although the UserCfg.opt and My Library allow you to think the link has been changed, it hasn’t.

MS/Asobo probably didn’t want any problems caused with users changing the link’s address.
this.

When I installed MSFS 2024 on the 29th, my MSFS 2020 (uninstalled itself without notice) reinstalled to the same, previous location and all content was gone. Fortunately, I keep all my addons on a separate drive, linked to the respective community folder so nothing was actually lost. However, in trying to reinstate things, I found I had four empty community folders. Trial and error later I managed to identify the operative folder for each version. MSFS installation file/folder hierachy remains very messy:
