Community Folder Location will not change

MS Store.

In my case, I have the Community location set via the Settings file path box in the Library section of the sim. The sim sometimes CTD’s for me during load, somewhere around the 25 - 27% point. After such a crash, my Community folder location resets itself, as do my my customized graphics settings. Interestingly (?), my controls and Assistance settings in the sim do not reset themselves.

I have finally simply given up fighting with the sim and just let it use the default it wants to use; as determined and pointed out extensively by others, despite being ostensibly located on my C: drive, that is merely a symbolic link to the actual location, which is buried inside the \Wps\ folder structure on the same drive as my sim anyway. I have MSFS Addons_Linker2024 pointed to that folder now and haven’t bothered trying to change it for now. You win this round, MSobo.

I used 1 and 2 together and it still defaulted to C drive.
It also defaulted to C drive after a CTD.
I also used Addon Linker and NOT Add on Linker.
Its behaved itself today after i ran it without Linker then WITH Linker.Might have settled down but will check more.

Might be off post but installed aircraft/scenery in the Comm folder do NOT show as installed in Library but show as Aircraft in Free flight. Is that meant to be the case?

So the consistent factor is MS-Store. I’m wondering if the permissions initially placed on anything C: related are much more stringent in that license type versus Steam. That’s my guess, and it’s been borne out before in FS2020.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

If the sim CTD’s during loading, subsequent restarts of the sim will fail until the user reboots the PC (NOTE: logging out of the user’s account and back in in lieu of a full reboot of the PC may suffice though I have not confirmed this). Following that reboot, restarting the sim results in any custom Community folder location being reset to the sim’s default location. This requires resetting the custom folder location in the Settings page of the Library tab, then restarting the sim for the custom location to take effect again.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

NO

This issue specifically involves Community folder location and accessibility of items stored there or linked to that location.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Every time (e.g., ever time following a CTD during loading - which has occurred approximately 4 times since I’ve been keeping track).

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Load the sim
  2. Wait for CTD DURING THE LOADING PROCESS
  3. Attempt to restart the sim (which will fail with an error code on the splash screen)
  4. Reboot PC
  5. Reload the sim
  6. Navigate to the Marketplace tab
  7. Click the Library tab
  8. Click the Settings (gear) icon adjacent to the Seach box
  9. Community folder location will have been reset to the sim’s default
  10. Set a new custom Community folder location
  11. Exit the sim to Desktop
  12. Restart the sim
  13. Custom Community folder will now persist (until the next CTD during loading)

• Same issue here.

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• Since the sim often can’t be closed from the main menu with Esc (it just hangs) I have to force quit it.
This changes the community folder / packages folder again to “C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe” while previously I had it set to “E:\MSFS 2024 Library”

Same issue for me.

Not sure why the post about rolling cache was merged here, the issue is not the same. Regardless, I was able to fix it by clearing room on my c drive, but surely the sim should let you build it where you want, without having to do this? Isn’t that the whole point of being able to set a custom location for the cache?

Still an issue. needs sorting

FS2024 Community Folder

  1. Installed and present location
    Symbolic Link:
    C:\Users\1ron2\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages

    Physical Location:
    K:\WpSystem\S-1-5-21-2997017442-1106904157-1831008082-1001\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    \LocalCache\Packages\Community

  2. Change location
    My Library → H:\Soundfonts
    UserCfg.opt → M:\Battlenet

  3. Quit to Desktop
    Run FS2024
Above install and present locations are unchanged.

Summary

On Startup of FS2024, the location of the “Installed Packages”,
the Community folder, reverts to the location set at install.

The My Library Settings screen for the Community Folder can be
changed but it does not affect FS2024 after you Quit FS2024.
The location reverts back to the installed location when you
start FS2024 again.

The My Library Settings screen change will change UserCfg.opt.

Changes to UserCfg.opt does not affect FS2024 after a restart.
It will revert back to the installed location.

The location of the FS2024 Community folder is set at install and always reverts back to the installed location on startup.

I too am having this issue from day one of release, I have my community folder location E:\MSFS Addons (1.3TB available space) this location is confirmed in the userCfg.opt file. I copy some 3rd party scenery to my new community folder, fly using this scenery. Exit Sim. Next time I start sim the Community folder has reverted back to the default install folder and my 3rd party scenery no longer accessible.
This is soooooooo frustrating, surely it can’t be that hard to code to save to the new community location.

Mine is working correctly now. What I did was verify the game files within Xbox app. Then restart the sim. I created a folder on F: MSFS 2024

Once in the sim click ‘My Library’ then go to the small gear icon on the right. Once the window opens click the ‘Browse’ now locate the folder you created. Now click on it and hit select folder (DO NOT OPEN IT). Done. Then restart the sim.

• Yes, folder is also resetting

I went to My Library and changed the Community folder location like you said.
I did not restart.

But, the location is still the original installed location in the Symbolic link.

I have the sim installed on F: and the community folder is not resetting. This is a fresh install. Shows in sim library browser window as F: MSFS 2024

If I click open it opens an empty community folder (F:MSFS 2024/Community)
(2) other folders outside alongside of the ‘Community’ folder.

Once you create and select the community folder you have to restart the sim entirely.

I did quit to desktop and restarted FS2024.

The Community folder resets to the installed location.

Where do you have the sim installed?
