Community folder sharing

If I want to keep msfs2020 it would be possible to share the community file with msfs2024?, so I don’t have to buy another hard disk.

For sure mate.
Because with very few exceptions most add-ons for MSFS should be backward compatible.
There’s no need to worry

That doesn’t mean 2020 and 24 will definitely access the same community folder though.

I don’t see any reason why Asobo would block sharing the Community folder.
There’s no need to worry - Symlink might help us

True. From the MSFS 2024 FAQ:

Owned MSFS 2020 Content

  • For any content you purchased outside of the simulator, the Community Folder will continue to work as it did in MSFS 2020. Any content in your MSFS 2020 Community Folder can simply be copied over to the new MSFS 2024 Community Folder, and the vast majority of that content should work in MSFS 2024.

If I have to copy the Community file to the msfs2024 and I want to continue using the msfs2020, I duplicate the gigabytes of the file on the hard disk. It should be possible to share with a link

One thing to be aware of is that if sharing using a link is confirmed as a workable alternative to copying by MS, the addon may not work in 2024 if the 2020 version is subsequently updated and the update is incompatible with 2024.

Hopefully this would never be the case as long as all developers checked that their 2020 products & updates worked with 2024. I suspect that developers creating paid addons will do this.

However, not all developers of free addons for 2020 might want to upgrade to or develop for 2024 immediately. Just something to bear in mind when troubleshooting.

Use symbolic links for the tried and tested (in FS2024) mods and you will have few issues
