Computer Specs for 2020

Hello Everyone,
I installed the sim last week and my current PC: Intel Core i7-6700CPU@3.40GHz, 16GB DDR3, AMD Radeon R9 360. The sim says I do not meet the requirements. I can run the sim and task manager shows CPU usage is fine during the sim but the graphics card is at 100%
I have two questions if people can help out.
Would just upgrading my graphics car be enough?
I was looking to possibly get a new PC anyways as this one is prob 5 years old. I was looking at this one at BestBuy in Canada. Do these specs look ok?

HP Pavilion Gaming PC (Intel Core i7-10700F/1TB HDD/256GB SSD/16GB RAM/GeForce GTX 1660 Super)

I appreciate any feedback. Thanks for your time.

Definitely would be playable if you upgrade the video card for sure. What resolution will be playing?

What ever resolution it would let me

I was looking online at graphics cards and some of them are very highly priced. I am at a loss at what to look for. (Yes, not overly computer savy) I googled what the sim recommended and it was not a crazy amount less than the new PC I mentioned above.

Ya you can really get crazy with these new cards now a days. Im running gtx 1070 8gig card and that’s a few years old. I really wouldn’t go any less. I play at a mix of high and ultra settings at 1080p. If you want to play at 4K you will need a much better card than a gtx 1070. Your cpu should be just fine for now. At least 16 gig of ram 32 even better. Any questions feel free to ask.

Mate, have just bought a new PC myself…Ryzen 9 5900X, 32 GB 3200 RAM, 3080ti, water cooled, 2 x 1TB Nvme SSD’s , Gigabyte X570 mother board.
I run P3D V5, MSFS and DCS World…other than Firefox, my PC is clean.
I run MSFS at 30FPS…giving me an absolutely buttery smooth experience…settings are on Ultra…with a 4K TV as the monitor…I do set resolution at 90%…landings are such a pleasure now…even flying over cities, eg Sydney and New York. Not cheap, but doing a stack of research before forking out my hard earned, I learnt that the best combination appears to be a Ryzen chipset and a Nvidia graphics card.
Just my humble opinion based on my recent experience.

Can You Run It or CYRI from [www.systemrequirementslab.com](http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/) is the most popular and widely used game system requirements tool to tell whether your PC or computer is capable of running that game? This online CYRI tool is free to use and you can use it with your PC or laptop. It analyzes your computer hardware configuration, compares it with the game system requirements in their database and then tell you the result. It also suggests which component of your computer needs to be upgraded to match the minimum specifications for that game.

It may not be up-to-date for MSFS but it should be a close approximation.

I agree without hesitation.

I have an X570 with 32 GB 3200 ram and I upgraded from a Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 5 5600X. If I had it to do over again I would have gone for an Nvidia 2080 (3000 series wasn’t out when I built my machine) instead of the Radeon 5700XT I currently have.

Even though I’ve got the 5700XT running well now, it took months of fiddling around with drivers and settings.

One thing I would add is go for no less than a 1TB SSD. If you can, grab a 2TB SSD. MSFS seems to like being installed on the same drive as Windows.

Just my $0.02…

Try to find a prebuilt with at least a 3060ti or 3070 if you find any at a reasonable price.
The game scales very well on the latest AMD on Nvidia cards which is obvious.

“at least bothered to put 100-200$ extra on getting 3600MHz or faster ram…”
It was a package deal…no changes allowed…However, before ordering, I did more research re 3200 v 3600…just one of many similar comments I found…
eg “If you are using a platform such as Ryzen, the faster the RAM the better. But around 3200MHz is the sweet spot in terms of price to performance.”
Also , apparently the difference is negligible…Unless of course you are an IT guru and dispute these claims…

Its really based on your budget to be honest. If you can afford it and want to go buy a new pc. But honestly i would just upgrade your gpu.

You should be able to play if you buy another graphics card. Rule of thumb, buy the best card you can afford. I like Nvidia my self. I was able to play fine with a 1080 using medium settings on my last computer. Make sure your power supply is rated for the card you pick. I would get at least a 512 gig ssd drive. Windows will take half of that and 140 gig more for the game. Of course by the time you do all that, you might as well bite the bullet and buy a new rig. Again, buy the most you can afford.

That one I listed was $1 400 plus tax.

Have the same CPU and an RTX 2060 Super. Up to SU5 I had a bit of stuttering but since SU5 I am very satisfied. About 20 to 25 fps, for me this seems to be smooth. Most settings on high. Monitor 4k!
EDIT: Avoid background tasks. I had very bad performace on monday evenings, till I found, an automated backup to my NAS  :face_with_thermometer:

Thanks everyone for the replies. I appreciate it. My problem with just getting a new card is the power supply in my PC is only 240W.

Oh you definitely need a new Pwr supply. Find a 650 watt…not much money and grab a gtx 1070 or 1060 and enjoy med and high settings.
