Configuring right analog stick on the Xbox controller for throttle control

Occasionally I like to play in casual mode and use my Xbox game pad when I’m not in the mood to set up my peripherals, I thought I would try using the right analog stick up and down for throttle control but it’s behaving weird.

When pressing up or down once on the stick I was expecting the throttle to increase one notch at a time but instead it goes all the way up to 100% or 0% with one press of the stick up or down.

Seems a bit strange since it’s technically a digital button from what I can tell, so I would thought I would try the throttle increase and decrease “small” instead, but there’s no throttle decrease (small) available?

Anyone else managed to get the analog stick to work where you can top it up or down once for a notch of change or hold it for continuous throttle movement?

Thx

I think this is what is messing you up here.

It’s not a digital button. If it were, it would have two states on/off.

It’s an axis with a potentiometers that have varying levels of resistance whose values vary as the stick is moved further from its center detent towards its stop.

If you hold the stick in a mid way position does it place the throttle in a mid way position in the cockpit or does it still “peg” the throttle at 100%?

At the end of the day, I’m not entirely sure you’re going to have success getting the stick to work since it will always want to return to a zero state when you let go of it.

Thanks for the feedback, yeah that makes sense doesn’t it. When I tap the right stick up the throttle slowly moves all the way to 100% and vice versa. If I let go of the stick and leave it neutral the throttle continues to move until it hits either 0 or 100%.

I’m seeking a way to do this as well. This used to be accomplished easily by utilizing the MotionInJoy software. I had my sticks’ Y+ and Y- each bound to button 19 and 20. The Sim would read the stick movements as button presses.
