On my last flight the FMC gave me a trim configuration of 4.25. The trim wheel doesn’t do those increments, instead it would say 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 etc. I set it at 4.2 but that put my trim at +27% and and my nose almost immediately pulled up into a tail strike. What is everyone else’s usual trim configuration on for a 1h 30 min flight?
Set it up looking at the trim wheel’s indication. Ignore tooltips or HUD indications to set the trim in this plane. At least at my PC this works like this.
It doesn’t show the number values on the wheel itself….. and when I normally would line it up in the green band around the middle I’d still get the configuration alarm
I’ve only flown a couple times, but I’m not very careful with trim settings, and I certainly haven’t seen a pitch up/tail strike. I wonder if there was something wrong with your weight and balance loading?
On my last flight, full passengers, 8,000lbs of fuel, 10,000lbs cargo, I remember just setting the trim around the center of the green band, approximately 5% based on the numbers next to the wheel.

I usually just go with what the tablet says, which since I almost always fly 1h 30min flights is usually 131.7 zfw. Prior to SU5 the reserve in the tablet always said 6lbs, so I’d set it to 6.0. But SU5 changed everything in the tablet now I’m more confused on what to put. I always thought lining up roughly with the 5 in the green band was perfect but I’ve still had the alarm scream at me on takeoff….
I don’t think the sim shows the CG indicators in the trim? I’ll have to look next flight. I’m still perfecting my pre flight FMC set up.
I also experience from time to time (like 25% of my take-offs in this plane) those alarm calls and I trim very carefully after lift-off and I rotate slowly and at a bit higher speed, otherwise the plane can go crazy very quick and sudden
Yeah, the first 40-45sec or so after lift off are the most intense, Also, wether or not you can trust atc or even your own T/D to start your descent on time. One of my last flights I was excited that it seemed they cleared me down to to 3000 early enough, then learned they forgot that there was a mountain range between me and the runway. They tried to kill us!
I never flew the plane prior to SU5, so I don’t have any past experience.
However, if you were inserting ‘6.0’ in the the FMS “RESERVE” field, I think that field is in pounds x 1000. So 6.0 = 6000 lbs.
I think you’re right, if I remember correctly… I’ve seen in real photos the trim wheel show CG% as well as trim %. But in the sim is just has trim %.
Yeah I knew that it was actually 6 lbs. I was never sure what to do with any of the fmc setup so I had googles AI talk me through it.
