Constant crashes using RTX 3070

MSFS 2024 crashes on every run on my system. Sometimes it runs for a few minutes, but I’ve gotten used to it crashing pretty much every time I run it. I can see with the Nvidia app that the GPU usage is very high, above 90%, but I don’t see why the game should crash so often.

My setup:

  • Intel Core i7-10700T CPU @ 2.00GHz
  • NVIDIA, GA104 [GeForce RTX 3070]
  • 32 GB RAM

Here’s what I have tried:

  • Reinstalling Windows 11
  • Reinstalling MSFS 2024
  • Using lower graphics (medium)
  • DLSS “Performance” setting (uses less GPU)
  • NVIDIA Control Panel, set “Low Latency Mode” to “Ultra”.
  • Enable V-Sync
  • Nvidia Control Panel, limit frame rate to 60.
  • Disable unnecessary programs in Windows.

is your gpu OCd?

I have a similar setup, but do not experience real CTDs (beyond the onces that are known), and can do long flights.

Have you run some hardware testing software to check for memory errors? Or did you overclock your CPU/GPU?

Did you try running it without any peripherals attached?

Experience a similar bahaviour on my PC since yesterday .
msfs 2024 always blames the graphics card.
RTX 3060.

WIN 11 24H2 does not work properly with Auto HDR.
Maybe that’s the cause. I’ll try it today without Auto HDR.

Good luck, walter.

No, I’m not using overclocking. Thanks.

Memory test passed. I haven’t overclocked. Peripherals are the same as with MSFS 2020, which ran fine.

I’ve been plagued by frequent CTD’s as well. Not sure if this was a fix or a band aid, I haven’t had time to test at length.

Go into windows settings → apps → installed apps → msfs 2024 → Advanced settings → repair

Then find the steamed package folder (the one with all the airplanes in it) and delete it.

It will take longer to load in next time you start msfs as it has to rebuild that folder. I tried this tonight after getting 5 CTD’s and a BSOD while trying to get the PC-24 from cold and dark to flight. After this I was able to get into cruise without a CTD. Was also able to end the flight back to the main menu without a CTD. Which I haven’t been able to do for a few days.

I can report more tomorrow when I have a chance to do some more testing but this may help

12/22/24 Update:

Started up the sim and got 2 CTD’s. re-did the steps from my post above and got a complete flight finished with the PC-24 (KMQY - KDPA) without issue.

worth a try :man_shrugging:

2nd Update 12/22/24:
I’ve still experienced CTD’s while navigating main menus or while in the EFB for flight planning in the main menus. but my in flight experience has greatly improved after doing above and I also deleted the rolling cache as well.

I think I found a solution, the sim is running better than it ever has for me. I’ve been playing for over 2 hours now with Zero CTD’s, the menus are smoother than they’ve ever been and the flying is studder free.

IMO Reducing the number of active cores from 32 to 30 and lowering the P Core ratio from 57 to 55 seems to have made my whole system more stable. I’m of course going to keep playing but my hopes are up as everything is running great.

I’ve been able to stop flights and start new flights without crashes, something I’ve never been able to do. I can zoom in and out on the MFD, again, never been able to do that. I think I found my solution

If you’re running a high-end 13th or 14th Gen Intel CPU I’d say its worth a shot

i9-14900KF
280mm AIO cooler
Asus ROG Strix MB
32GB 6000Mhz RAM
RTX 4080 Super
2TB SSD
850W power supply

I blew dust from my PC and reseated my RAM. I’m finally able to fly without crashes!
