ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: Sim started crashing after the last major updated a couple weeks ago. When in the career mode, headquarters or the mission map the sim will stutter the sound, freeze and crash to the desktop with no error code. This is a random problem, sometimes it will load the mission properly and work fine. This crashing only happens in the Headquarters screen or the mission screens, it has never crashed during an actual flight.

[PC Only] I never had any mods added

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

Intermittently, about 98% percent of the time, it will crash to the desktop, as stated earlier never accompanied by any error code.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. I load the game through my Steam library, Game loads properly, enter Career mode, enter headquarters, all crashes occur in the subcategories of headquarters.

I have a Winwing Orion 2 throttle & Joystick, MFG Crosswind V3 rudder pedals, Pimax Crystal Light VR headset.

[PC Only] Windows 11 home edition, no changes made, other than windows updates.

still crashes to desktop without any reason.

Would suggest s fresh install. its fairly simple and all settings are stored in the cloud. Solved some strange screen and efb errors and ctd for me last week

No, it’s not funny. I can’t finish any flight that lasts longer than 20 min.

And yes. This suggestion doesn’t work.

Thanks for the suggestion, I did the re-install, and it might have fixed the issues! I’ll report back after some more testing.

I’ve done a fresh install. No change. im at a 75% freeze rate. Started with the last update.

Now i fly 1h trip.

Except that this flight was made at 15,000 feet on autopilot, while the previous flights I made at a level below 1,000 feet (actually 500 feet) all the time controlling the plane.

And now: is the MSFS 2024 hanging due to loading the terrain in higher resolution for 20 minutes or the X52 control?

Nope, I’m sorry to say a re-install did not fix the issue, still randomly crashing on the Headquarters screen and the mission screen, never in flight. But the re-install has seemed to fix the problem of the sim losing calibration of the left rudder, we’ll see if this last also.

I have no idea what the purpose of this forum is! We post issues on here and then apparently rely solely on the generosity of other members to provide tech support on a clearly defective application! Where the h** is Osoba’s tech support, I paid them $125 for this app not the members of this forum, they designed and sold a defective product and should either provide the proper support or issue refunds to anyone that want out of Alpha testing on their product.

I had this also but not so severe as you. I got ctd when changing the controles. Screen froze and ctd. I monitored and saw a virtual memory overload

Have winwing orion throttle , joystick and rudder
What i did,

Fresh install of msfs 2024 and deleted all the bindings

Change my pagefile to max 192gb (have 64 gb ram)

Removed all mods

Good luck, hope you fix it

Had this problem. Open xr toolkit fovehead rendering caused it. Works again now.
Also latest nvidia driver gave me issues

Thank you very much for the input, I’ll give it a try! I have isolated it down to using VR. If I use the sim without VR it does not crash, so it must be a Pimax Play or the Crystal Light issue.

I was getting frequent CTDs with the Crystal OG in VR when changing settings in vanilla FS 2024. In the latest Beta I haven’t had one. Just today I was making frequent setting changes in VR and had no CTDs.

Also, I’m using eye tracking foveated rendering via the Toolkit with no CTDs at all.

5800x3D, 4090, Win 10, latest 572.16 Nvidia driver (not the hot fix version).

Mine is still crashing on the career map screen. I just don’t enter into VR till I need to get in the plane then it’s not a problem, and the crashes only every happen on the career mission map page.

I have been suffering from constant crashing in VR after about 2 minutes about 100% of the time. I narrowed it down to SMT (Simultaneous Multi Threading - Hyperthreading) being disabled in my BIOS. I had SMT disabled for increased performance in MSFS2020. Reenabled it and was finally able to run VR much longer with increased stability. I still get occasional crashes when panning in outside view sometimes but at least I am able to run VR for more than 2-3 minutes. The errors were all 0xc0000005 memory access errors.

As MSFS2024 is much better CPU optimized, Pimax relying on multiple threads, I was likely starving threads leading to memory access issues. YMMV.
