So I have several third-party addons in my community folder, (I’ve had to redownload all of them after a fresh MSFS install). However, the majority of them aren’t showing in the sim, they are visible in the content manager as ‘not installed’, with no option to download.
I’ve checked the fltsim config file , and that is pointing to the community folder that contains the addons.
Any ideas?
Cheers Jim !
Do this procedure to determine where the Community folder is.
I believe the Usercfg.opt file may actually determine the location.
go into MSFS2020
Select Options
Select General
Select Developers (on the left, at the bottom)
Turn Developer Mode on
Look for the new menu in the top left (the text is very small)
Select Tools
Select Virtual File System
Select Packages Folder
I have checked and it does point to the community folder with the addons - It’s strange. For example, I have installed the FBW A320 through its own installer, but when I add a livery to the community folder - it doesnt show in the sim. Same with the addon airports, as you can see from the screenshot - I have EGSS (London Stansted) , normally just placing them into the community folder would mean they are active in the sim, but nothing. All I get is the list of addons in the content manager, all saying not installed.
Did you check the usercfg.opt to see what location it indicated?
Don’t confuse the Content Manager with the Community folder, they are entirely different.
Very few items that are in the Community Folder will be displayed in the Content Manager.
Generally only items installed from the MSStore are in the Content Manager.
I’m hoping someone can help and dont mind me opening a similar topic, I can’t post my own and Im about to pull out the 3 strands of hair I have left, very similar issue, however my paid downloads wont download, they start the download process, then pause and go back to 0 download.
If I look in the Official/Onestore I see the PMDG package there as a PART file with 0 bytes, it never increses, after about 2 hours it just says failed download.
I have cleared out my base files (they all downloaded correctly), I have cleared out other Asobo folders from the onestore, they re install, I deleted a FSReborn paid one to see if that would kick the d/l off…Now that wont install either.
I have checked and the “AppData\Local\packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore” is empty
I’m a bit at a loss, hoping someone would be kind enough to give me some ideas
My broadband is 100/50 (as I say it downloaded all the base files fine)
I am having the same or similar problem. I download the 3rd party file, unzip it and put it in the Community folder. Then I can see the same product in the Content Manager - it is listed as NOT INSTALLED so I click on it and get a big checkmark on the left side. When I do the same with Microsoft products I then would get a large INSTALL button to appear in the lower right, but no such button appears when I put a check mark on any 3rd party product in the Community folder. No option to install. I then go back to Main Menu and find that the 3rd party airplane is, indeed NOT installed.
DevMode shows I have the right path to Community folder. Usercfg.opt shows a path to the level of Packages, the folder that contains Official, Community and others.
OK, figured it out - I was trying to load one particular add-on and apparently that one is defective. After I tried some other add-ons they worked fine. The way FS handles this in the Content Manager could be more user friendly, IMHO.
The check mark you get on the left of the add-on name in Content Manager, has no effect, which is different behavior than the check mark you would use on official content items to mark them for installation. So the check mark on add-ons should be removed entirely.
Now everyone else probably knows this but I had totally forgotten how the add-ons are installed. Valid add-ons in Community are simply installed automatically when FS is booted, and if they are invalid/defective they appear in Content Manager as Not Installed and nothing can be done with them there. So there ought to be a big note, something like, “Could not install - add-on may be defective.”
That’s an odd one.
One more check, in Developer Mode in the sim:
See Developer mode >> Tools >> Virtual File System >> Community folder
That should also spell where it is.
If it points to the same location as your Usercfg.opt file does, and it isn’t there, it is indeed gone for some strange reason.
It’s also odd that the sim didn’t make a new Community Folder when it is started up, it is supposed to.
