+1, not sure what ground roll is. Maybe how centered you are once you touch the ground?
Yeah, but ..
On my 1689092 run I had almost max score in ground roll but I didn’t feel I was so much better aligned. It’s kinda random for me at the moment. If only I could combine those two landings!
BTW, I believe “ground roll” is based on your furthest point left or right from target, during the entire landing roll. So… you could touch down perfectly on target, but if you veered off course 20 feet left or right at any point during the landing roll, your score is based on that 20, not that perfect touchdown.
Welcome to the forum @DenraelG Great! Nice job!
I find the new #1 score of 1,978,600 a little hard to believe though…I’d like to see THAT screenshot! The theoretical maximum score is 2,000,000 but I don’t think that it is actually possible.
The formula is (Landing Precision [5000 max] + Ground Roll [5000 max]) x Landing Smoothness [200 max]
A score of 1,978,600 means the Landing Smoothness multiplier had to be no less than 198 because otherwise, the remainder would be over the sum of the maximum of the other two components [10,000 max]. At 198, the remainder is 9,993… just 7 points off from perfect! Congrats if the leader pulled that off, but my smoothest landing ever was 17 fpm which gave me a multiplier of 194 on the Nice landing challenge.
Best of luck to all!
You hit the spot almost perfect! Nice job!
WOW!
How did you do the landing smothness i can’t make it under 60 ![]()
Basically, fly a little more shallow approach and keep power on a bit longer before flare. Also, I tweaked the control sensitivity on my joystick to -50% to help smooth my inputs a bit.
Hope that helps!
I agree, though the terminology has changed at some point during development before release. If you click the Help page for any of the landing challenges you can see four different scoring criteria clearly explained, even though there are only three at present:
In reality, the “Centre Line” measure has been renamed to “Ground Roll” and the original “Ground Roll” measure has been removed. So we have:
I reported the incorrect help page to Zendesk a while back but haven’t checked the help page in the recent update to see if it has been fixed. But in spite of the different naming I think it helps to clarify the scoring measures.
I can confirm that as I test I did some very long roll-outs on some challenges and still got a good score on “ground roll” provided I stayed on the centre line, even when I used up most of the runway ![]()
Thank you for pointing this out! I’ll share your feedback to the team.
No problem at all, it was already picked up via Zendesk and it doesn’t affect the scoring, only the potential understanding if people read the help screen.
After 15 or so attempts over the last few days, I had one quick attempt last night before I went to bed and managed 11th, up from 35 or so. I’ll try a handful more times in the coming days, it’s good fun provided I don’t take it too seriously!
Update 9/11: Few more attempts tonight, last call. Managed 10th then 8th. Hail the amazing accuracy of the ancient Sidewinder FFB2 joystick
(Don’t think I’d fair so well with the Saitek yoke; seldom plug it in nowadays.)
