Contrast is still very low (on default settings LG screen + Nvidia RTX 3060Ti)

Ok. The contrast of the LG 27GL83a is not the best, but its more than fine. The thing is when using default Nvidia settings in 10bit (or 8 bit for that matter), there is not the right contrast in the game. Or, its more like its okey contrast in the cockpit, and the rest looks really blend (even when wathing from outside). Since I dont want to change settings in my NCP and since there are not profiles (hello, Nvidia) for settings colors per game or app (yes, hello again Nvidia) AND I dont want to use like Nvidia Experience to change the contrast with filters (hits my fps) - so what is my choices? I wish you could add a GAMMA setting in game ASAP. Maybe more colour settings as well. Wouldt be that hard, right? Like in DCS! (only gamma but thats the big problem in FS).

Tell me if you fellows get good contrast without using any 3rd party app or changing in the NCP (or AMD similar).

If there is any way to change this for this game only (other games looks fine and dandy), just please let me know. It will save a lot of mumbling for me…

After the latest drivers (as of today), things feels very good in the some for now. Well some shimmering on houseroofs (any fix for that?) is still present. But exept for that, it feels better than it did a cpl of weeks ago.

Btw, whats your LOD settings at the moment?

Are you sure you haven’t let the Geforce experience app change your game settings with it’s auto optimise thing instead of just using it for the filters?

I’ve used the Freestyle filters to adjust my image and don’t find any noticeable fps hit on my system with those, and it’s a fairly modest 3700X with 2070 super setup.

If you’re using HDR try running the HDR Calibration App from the windows store.

There is also a setting called black level in some LG panels. High corresponds with 0-255 (Full dynamic range), while Low corresponds to 16-255 (Limited dynamic range). The same setting can be found in your graphics card’s control panel, you’ll want to set both to full dynamic range instead of limited.

Hello. I’m not using HDR, I have too low nits on my 27GL83a from what Ive read in tests. No black level setting on this screen, just “Black Stabilizer” which is set to 0 since its only purpose is to brighten (even out) shadows. The settings in the control panel is set to 10-bit and full dynamic range.

The Geforce Experience app is not installed. Might have a look at it again, but from what Ive both read and been able too see for myself - there is a bit of fps hit. Might be neglectable though.

Whats the “freestyle” filters? Is that in Experience?

The only time I have found any fps hit is if you allow it to Auto optimise the game, just make sure you turn that bit off first.

Yes that’s what Nvidia call the post processing filters, “Freestyle”.
I can’t run the game without them, looks horrible, but with a few adjustments it’s excellent on my monitor.

Interesting. Ive only had a peek at it so far. But: It will save the setting for tha special game then? It will remember the filter and its setting (also custom settings) for a game, or do i have to load it ?

You set it in game by bringing up an overlay with ALT + F3.
You can add all sorts of filters and each one has a number of sliders you can adjust to your taste.
You also have 3 memory slots for each game, so you can for example, have a different set of filters for day or night flying if you think that’s required. Once you have set them they start up automatically.

Personally I use these filters

Brightness/Contrast filter which has 5 sliders for Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows & Gamma.

The colour filter which has Tint colour, Tint intensity, temperature and vibrance
(N.B. when you select this initially everything will go pink, just put the top two sliders fully left to neutralise that and then adjust the rest accordingly)

The details filter which has Sharpen, Clarity, HDR Toning & bloom options. Again adjust as you require.

This you tube guide might make it a bit simpler to understand but I used completely different values to him, just adjust as you see fit.

The only issue with the filters is if there is a new Nvidia driver or there is a sim update that changes the msfs .exe file you will lose the filters and have to set them up again, so just take a note of the settings once you have them to your liking. Only takes a few minutes to put them back again.

WOW! It actually made a huge (!) differnce. Im glad I tried it again. It seems that the its doing some auto settings? Is that based on the game, or…? I found some greyed out sharpening slider to be set (on top) to 50? Is that default or is that above, and why cant I turn it off? (already using the AMD sharpening in game).

Thanks for making me give it another try @XTCQuinn

So far (with automatic settings that almost was spot on) Im using Gamma and Colour. Have not tried the others. =) Yet.

Glad you got some good results. There is a greyed out sharpening filter right at the top of the list, I don’t think that’s adding any extra sharpening over the default. It never used to be there, appeared about 6 months ago after an update.

If you add the details filter there is a sharpen option in there which is set to about 50 and you can turn that one off, or to a lower/higher value.
I find on my system setting that to about 5 or so helps with the dash clarity without causing any undue effects on the scenery.

Hello again!

Two questions: The changes in either (or both) gamma or colurs has introduced banding on clouds (high settings on clouds - does that differ vs ultra?). I also found the color of sunsets atc a bit on the pink side, even though I think I have nailed the ground colours perferct almost. Have I adjusted in a wrong way then?

Can’t say for sure, I do use ultra clouds and only notice banding if i have contrast too high. Just try with ultra and see.

Don’t think there are any best ways to set it, it will depend very much on your monitors capability (HDR?) and your personal preferences.

You will also be chasing your own tail if you try and get everything perfect there are so many variables.

Keep your existing settings and experiment a bit on one of the other memory slots is probably the best way forward.
