I’ve been trying to assign actions to my controller (Hotas Warthog) in the controller options menu. I’m able to assign actions when the action type is “On Press” but not when the action type is set to “On Release”. What I’m expecting it should do is:
Nothing happens when the button is pressed.
Action triggered when the button is released.
Without this working, half of my controller buttons are pretty much useless or very annoying to use. For example on a switch with 3 positions, going back to the middle position does nothing since only the upper and lower positions are considered as buttons. If the “On Release” action type was working I could trigger an action when coming from the upper or lower positions back to the middle position.
Would you be able to let me know if this is a bug or if maybe there is something I don’t understand in the way this feature is intended to work?
Here’s a screenshot of the feature for illustration:
FLAPS FULL Up/Down at 22/23 On-Press
FLAPS Pos2 at 22/23 On-Release
As mentioned… use VALIDATE and ignore the missleading error-message ( which report an issue with same key and may be devs forgot that ther different combination key-action possible ).
Also what I have in mind… in case one of the buttons will not work, it might be necessary to re-validate it again ( also the existing On-Press buttons ).
Yes I have tried to validate of course. I just used a screenshot with a misleading example I guess. But the issue remains even with non existing key bindings.
I’ve tried multiple scenarios, different actions etc. the “On Release” has never worked for me ever.
In my case ( stable release ) it works fine ( I own also the TM Warthog Throttle ). I just have to ignore the error-message. If switch back from 22 or 23 into the middle positiion, the Flaps go to position 2.
note: I made the settings before I take the screenshot.
I ended making it work thanks to your comment. Not that you provided the solution but telling me that it worked for you made me want to try different options!
There were a few things that were misleading me in the configuration:
I thought “Flaps 1” was the setting for the retracted position but now that I think about it, it didn’t make much sense since flap 1 is, well… flap 1! Your screenshot made me realize I should probably use “Reract Flaps” instead.
There is a bug (and I’m quite sure of this one): sometime when validating with “On Release” and then going back to the setting it’s actually saved as “On Press”. You have to set it one more time to “On Release” and then validate again in order to have the setting really saved. I haven’t figured yet the proper steps to reproduce the issue. I think it happens when applying another action with the same button but I’m not 100% sure. All I know is, it has happened to me several times.
Here’s the configuration that worked for me in the end for the flaps:
these are often the best solutions and therefore is a nice discussion so important - bringing up new ideas
and yes… my setting was only a try… I decided while ago not to use the middle-step ( more exact I no longer use the FLAPS switch ), because there are more positions of original A-10c ( 0,7,20 ). Flaps2 was in my example also not the “middle”. At least I wanted to mention it works,… more or less
Your second point is what I former meant with " , it might be necessary to re-validate it again ". I also assume there is somewhere a kind of issue , depend on the order of made the setting.
