I thought that there were no copilots showing up in 2024. I fully admit that I screamed a little when I turned my head to be confronted by this … fright … while flying the Optica.

Thanks for the laugh! I removed my copilot for that very reason. I wish we could create our own. Took me awhile to create my own avatar, and I’m happy with it, but would like something other than the limited choices available as copilot.

If you make one, it will show up. I can’t stand them so I disable it.

There are options in the game to change the look of the co-pilot. Mine looks nothing like that!
I disabled co-pilots but still have one showing up in Draco X. I’m assuming its a passenger, but when I remove passenger weight they stay anyway.
How, I didn‘t find that option yet

In the character creator, when you choose your copilot, you can choose the first blank box so there will be none.
That copilot is, I think, just for career missions though.
I was under the impression (based on some dev comments I had seen here in the forums) that Asobo had not allowed any of the third party planes which have pilots/copilots in the cockpit in 2020 to display them in 2024. Hence my shock at seeing this frightning visage sitting next to me.

I have chosen the null copilot in character creator to remove copilots from other aircraft, but it doesn’t work for the Optica. One way of avoiding the problem is to occupy the right-hand seat yourself, helicopter style.

Same for me even if I chose a co-pilot design thru my profile, it does not replace the generic random ones that show up in the optica and other planes in 2024 that are not the main asobo default planes, even I went back to deleting the co-pilot, still only affects asobo planes, but the optica and some like the Commando has an ugly low polygon count ww2 copilot so cant remove that either. It is more annoying since I often fly VR and they block my vision and do affect FPS a bit.
It doesn’t work for any of the Got Friends addons in 2024 unfortunately. Seems to be impossible to disable co-pilots. Just means I won’t fly them which is a shame.
When my daughter is round at the weekend, we’ll be going flying and I’ll be the copilot.
She’ll use the HOTAS. I’ll take care of ATC, aircraft prep and ATC from the Xbox Controller.
