I agree. Unfortunately the current implementation of Hybrid is the problem. It makes no sense at all. It should be exactly as described by ISAAC689 above.
This effects Aus/NZ also and (as a pilot IRL) irks me every single time I fly. Like many other places around the world, we use ICAO standard units. Iâm puzzled as to how this is STILL an issue after all this time⊠surely this is one of the simplest of fixes?
@Jummivana do you know if this is ever going to be resolved? I still see this is an issue⊠Really appreciate your feedback.
Absolutely frustrating that this hasnât yet been addressed. Surely getting the most common units correct should be a basic requirement of any flight simulation?
More and more forum items are discussing the need for flexibility in displaying units of measurement, so Iâm adding this to the wish-list.
Could sliders or buttons be introduced in a Utility/Tools section to include:
- Distances - Naut Miles, Statute Miles, KMs, (and Metres, Feet, e.g. for rwy lengths)
- Height - Feet, Metres
- Pressure - hPa, Inches (and ATC modelled to match the userâs selection)
- Weight - Kg/tonnes, Lbs/tons
- Temperature - Centigrade, Fahrenheit (and ATC modelled to match the userâs selection)
- Time - 12H or 24H
Itâs Sim Update 7 time and there are STILL issues with selecting Hybrid.
The ATIS still refers to "Hg, and now the new weather system refers to km/h for the wind speed - but it is clearly knots!
Câmon Asobo, almost the ENTIRE world, including France, uses your supposed âhybridâ system.
How about giving this some love for SU8. Australia (WU7) definitely does not use the US systemâŠ
Also, the G1000 still reads "Hg with hybrid selected. Round instruments I could understand not having it change (although for the sim it really should anyway), but the G1000 etc doesnât really have any excuse not to reflect the changeâŠ
Honestly I believe that you should be able to switch between both. The game should have ATC giving you hPa in airspace that does hPa, and have it give you IN.Hg in airspace that does IN.Hg. The G1000 can do both, and should be able to do both in this game. Select the one you need to use and roll with it in the respective airspace. If people are requesting regional accents for ATC text to speech, and that can be implemented, so can regional units!
This should honestly be a thing in the Assistance Options. Where âTrue to Lifeâ can be units given according to their respective airspace norms. While the âAll Assistsâ can go by the preferred units you have set on the US Standard/Metric settings. Given you have proper options for that as outlined in OP here, setting knots or hPa. (Or by the limitations of the altimeter in the aircraft youâre flying!)
Would be really nice if the game defaulted to ICAO standard (speed knots, QNH hPa, alt feet, distance nautical miles/meters, temp celsius, kilograms, litres etc) instead of US Standard. âHybridâ should honestly be renamed to âInternational Standardâ and updated.
I agree 100%. It may require a bit of manual work, but as there are only a few "Hg countries it canât be that onerous.
Transition levels are another big thing that vary from country to country, and information that should be able to be accessed on the NavBlue database (it is, I use them daily IRL - theyâre on the charts AND on the databases) to greatly improve the realism of the sim. And that goes for metric, imperial, and the more common âhybridâ system in use across most of the world too.
This was the first indication to me that Asobo didnât understand two reasonably crucial aspects of this hobby, namely:
- Aviation
- The Flight Simulator genre
Itâs ridiculous that this hasnât been fixed when itâs in every version of FS since WWII ! They clearly believe that they have âfixedâ it when in fact their âfixâ was just wrong. I donât know how we get this back onto their To Do list? Anyone?
I have always been using the US system, because I was used to it in flight simulator, even though I live (and fly a lot) in Europe and outside of the US. But, today tried switching to metric/hybrid for the first time and was very confused about the weather settings as well. The wind speed is displayed in km/h, but it looks as if under the hood, it still uses kts. When setting the wind speed to 20 km/h, it âfeltâ (and looked like) a wind speed of 20 kts. Is this a known issue as well?
We just need to ability to select these units individually ourselvesâŠ
Is there any way we can manually override individual units via an xml or somesuch? Iâm kind of sick of waiting for this. Honestly, itâs absolutely mind-boggling how something so simple and so fundamental to aviation is still broken this far out from the productâs launch.
The most laughable is the windspeed, when using hybrid its in meter per second or km/h? Donât remember exactly, also ATIS wind is bogus. Probably wind direction is still wrong also, not taking into account magnetic variation.
Why are our flight times displayed in seconds, instead of hours?
In the image below you can see I have 526,096.38 Seconds of total flight time.
Why not just display flight time in hours/minutes/seconds? Hrs:Min:Sec
It does appear to be more than a little user-unfriendly and it would be really easy to display the stored number of seconds in whatever format would be the most appropriate.
Iâd agree with you, that hours:minutes:seconds would make more sense and even add days and weeks for the more enthusiastic of simmers.
Clearly, itâs a bug or an oversight.
Itâs a bug.
Asobo any news on this? an ICAO setting would be spot on
Indeed!
Similarly, with âHybridâ on weather settings are displayed in F° . I donât see why the weather settings canât display both F and C at the same time, or let us choose somewhere.
