Correction to Default Seat Height - Pilot Camera / Eyepoint / Viewpoint

The C172 probably has the worst view, I can’t even see in the default camera position…

Sorry to bump this a bit, but I just started playing or simming as we say.

The default cockpit view is really annoying me. Itls too low and I can’t figure where I land since when I flare or fly straight I can’t see the runway.

When I press the space bar for the upper position, it’s the other way around. It’s like if I’m standing inside the aircraft instead of sat. So I have no clue if I fly straight or not since I see everything from above.

Did someone find a way to get the most realistic view without TrackIr or other software?

Thank you

The first time i fly in any new plane, I create custom cockpit views. I start with a standard default view for takeoff and landing, then one for each important panel. I have buttons on various buttons mapped to each. You can have up to 10.

That’s a lot of camera view!

I’m trying to setup my A320 Neo view by using height of 70-73 in the camera settings, but I have a problem adjusting the forward position to align the bubbles.

If I move the camera forward too much, it just feel like the pilot sit too close to the panels and off the seat rest. Or I guess that in real life the seat can move too instead of the pilot only…

I am just in the habit of adjusting the position with the arrow keys on my keyboard every time I fly.

  • Up/Down move the view forwards and back
  • Right-Ctrl + Up/Down move the view up or down
  • Left/Right move the view left or right (rarely need that)

Especially in VR it’s important to feel like I am not a giant, or a hobbit, or that my head in on top of the seat headrest.

For aircraft I fly the most, I adjust the cameras.cfg file for a permanent change (until there’s an update for the aircraft).

The ideal solution (will never happen) would be for every aircraft to have two default views, with a menu option for the player to choose which they prefer to use when loading into an aircraft, either:

  • Developer’s chosen default position (which we have now)
  • Realistic position based on a pilot of a ‘standard’ height. The “camera height” option in the menu could then be used to set your actual height and it would adjust the camera accordingly.

Maybe in the coming 2024 option we’ll get some improvements, but I doubt it due to the huge variety between different developers.

I am having this same seat height problem mentioned in the first post.

Using Xbox - X

I adjusted the default camera height to 70

The 172 View in the plane startup looks great at 70 or so But as soon as I move the eye point up or down it reverts back to the stock lower eye point. You can not get it back up to the correct level unless you restart the flight.

I have some buttons on the Honeycomb Alpha assigned to moving the camera position up and down. The camera will not go as high as the (Adjusted Default) camera position. I believe this is the exact same as hitting Spacebar or up arrow or some combo of that to get this desired camera movement.

Whats the workaround here? Should I assign the camera up and down buttons I have now to something else???

ctrl+alt+F10 save the current view as new default for each aircraft

What command is that if I were to add that to a Yoke button?

According to a thread I found in the past on the Avsim forums, it’s called “VFR Pilot View Save” - hope that’s the correct one.

Two warnings to bear in mind:

  1. Your camera height setting should be set to ‘50’ in the options, else it can affect the saving of views.

  2. This command can cause a crash if used on some third-party aircraft that do not have a VFR Pilot camera saved in their camera configuration. In that case it simply cannot be used on those aircraft. It should work on all default MSFS aircraft however.
