Just had this thought lastnight along with the thought “is this game potentially something that will last forever…” while truck driving…
With this completely revolutionary new MSFS that uses basically real world maps and by the sounds of things… will just continue to evolve as maps get updated and the actual game itself, being a "soft"ware could potentially never have a end through continual updates…
Could…
Could MSFS become part of this massive real world universe where it is apart of this massive online multiplayer world where…
Where you had real working sea ports where players could load and unload ships, that then get loaded onto trains and trucks…
With the use of “real world” bing maps that use actual streets and roads…
Could we actually drive or train products to real world depos.
Could we “go for a drive” and actually explore this world from the comforts of home driving real roads and (one day…) seeing almost actual scenery from future improvements in satellite/aircraft camera technology…
We could even have something like DCS modded into the game and be flying over “real world/but not real world” conflicts as we head to various destinations (but those mods such as DCS wont be able to “shoot you out of the sky so to speak” But you will definitely see multiplayers/fighter jets/tanks and the like fighting a fictional war and if you wanted to, you would get ATC/notam giving you the option to “fly real life” and to “avoid that airspace due to a created conflict…” or just carry on in your own world
Could that be possible with current or nearing technology…
I think it would be fantastic if you could fly actual cargo and see it get unloaded and loaded onto either a AI or real world multiplayer vehicle/object and get delivered to a real world destination or fly over a fictional or even real world event and get ATC directing you away such as an eruption
Some people like to fly airliners. Others like to build hours and “win” achievements and awards. Still others like to use companion software to move passengers and/or cargo.
To me that’s the beauty of this software: there is no “win” condition. (Well, maybe a perfect three-point landing in the Corsair.)
The manner of “play” is entirely dependent on the individual. I think that’s cool…
Its already a world travel simulator we are just missing trains. Not just transportation but also scenery and building architecture design. A huge potential for castle, houses, mansions building interior design.
But imagine if you could be a captain of a massive container ship and you could sail in real world through this platform (might need to be able to use sim rate… “six months in a leaky boat” might have it’s limits… … google that classic kiwi song) imagine seeing your "annoying mate disrupting you while he tries to land his HPG H135 on your bow whilst you navigate that treacherous bar into that harbor.
Or a real working port instead of the current static ones…
I think that the current technology maybe a wee way behind but it could be an awesome future possibility to have this one massive real world where everything works and flows…
Scary thought…
Basically, kissing good bye to your wife and kids… locking your door with your VR kit and never seeing light again as you fully immerse yourself to a VR world…
"Shall we have some fun tonight hubby… “You mean real or VR???” “Maybe VR babe…” “put on that VR kit and lets VR it on the streets of Paris”
I am sure your idea has been spoken aloud many times in the MS and Asobo offices.
Baby steps.
Maybe by next gen we will have all the simulators working within one global map. I’ll fly by your farm, while you drive the trailer to the race track and unload your car to compete that weekend.
I remember thinking about the future of sims while playing FS2 on my C-64.(yeah just dated myself…lol). I was thinking how cool it would be to have 1 platform where you could literally operate anything that could move.
Now, I think that reality could be closer than we think.
Except the game hasn’t quite figured out crawling so even baby steps are a long shot
But really though, there’s enough of these “lets make Microsoft Flight Simulator into an all encompassing simulator for planes trains and automobiles” threads. We can all agree that it’s a neat idea, but it has no place in a game who’s entire point is to fly around because this is a flight simulator.
What people are asking for in this thread is better off suited as a completely separate game. I don’t want to drive cars or boats in a flight simulator and adding those to this game as official content would completely ruin the game for me. There’s a fine line between implementing critical feedback and straight up pandering. The people who want a fully fledged multi-modal simulator inserted into microsoft flight simulator are an extreme minority
I might also add the resources required to build a game with full interiors, every mode of transportation possible across multiple decades (or centuries) that includes a high level degree of realism across the board far exceed the capabilities of any modern game studio, regardless of how much money is thrown behind it. even if a studio took that challenge, it’s not a 2 year development, you’re looking easily at a release date no sooner than 10 years from announcement of that game so full of feature creep it would rival Cloud Imperial Games in terms of reputation. And such a game being an MMO in nature, i’d be surprised if it were anything but subscription-based only. I would not pay for such entertainment (but i’m not knocking those that would. It’s your money dude…)
Hey, y’all can dream all you want, i wont stop you. Just remember there is a real world that we still live in. I’m just being the objective voice to keep this conversation useful of just a thread full of daydreamers
Can you elaborate? Because i’m pretty sure what people are asking for in this thread is to take your John Deere tractor and trailer full of corn to a warehouse (Farming Simulator), get into a Mack truck at the warehouse and take the trailer to a then get on a a train depot outside of town (American/Euro Truck Simulator) where you then hop into a virtual Dash 8 locomotive and haul a 50 car consist worth of other goods (Train Simulator/Train Sim World) to a seaport on the coast where it then gets loaded up by AI (or other players) onto a virtual Ever Given (does a cargo ship sim even exist?) where it then gets offloaded at another seaport, put onto another Mack truck (more truck sim) that you then drive to an airport. Then you load up into a virtual 747-400F where said cargo is placed in the hold and you take your virtual 747-400F to another airport in the middle of the country (Flight simulator), placed on another truck (even more truck sim) and driven to its destination. Maybe drive some fast cars on virtual race tracks, walk around worldly landmarks or transport people across any of these multiple modes of transportation. Not mention be VR capable and an MMO. All while having no loading screens, enterable building where applicable and immersive controls for each method of transportation.
Why do you think Microsoft’s Metaverse should not include flight simulation?
AI and cloud technology is exploding so much right now that in 10 years you possibly won’t even need a PC or an X-box for MSFS, just a cellphone, a TV or headset and a set of wireless peripherals.
You’re completely misinterpreting what i’m saying. Either English is not your first language (which is okay) or you’re trolling (which is not okay). Have your plane/train/automobile simulator as separate games and have a separate game that has all of it. But by no means should we try and add stuff outside the scope of the games intent (like driving F1 cars in a flight simulator)
“Metaverse” is just a buzzword to get game developers to think about game design in a different way. In fact, i think “metaverse” is going to further cripple humanity as we would rather be disconnected with each other playing pretend this or pretend that than play a game with no lag, consistent framerates, the most realistic physics, graphics and immersive gameplay that no other video game can replicate. Sure the game has a complicated skill tree, overpriced DLC, a broken crime and punishment system and the online community is toxic af, but at least you’d be able to learn and do something that other games simply can’t replicate. I’m talking about real life…
