Here is a super primitive walk around and quick flight. I am using my Xbox controller to translate around in the beginning. You can see it translates quite far around the ship as well all around inside.
I’m on Series X. My peripherals are a Logitech MK360 full keyboard and mouse (USB dongle.) Thrustmaster HOTAS One. Turtle Beach Velocity one Yoke with Rudder pedals. I also program lights and other configurations to the throttle quadrant on the TB V1. I usually only use my Xbox controller for drone cam or when I want to be ‘fancy’ and walk around (translate holding LB.) After the recent updates (Cowan) all my custom cameras were all saved outside the aircraft as if they were shifted. I just translated back to where I wanted them and saved them again CTL+ALT # 1-10. Same with the main pilot camera. I have to reset all the camera sliders to default 50. Get my head where I want it then save that view with CTL + F10. Then when it messes up or isn’t right reset with Shift + F10. I’m not sure if you can do that with default controller/gamepad setup. You’ll have to Save a bind for ‘VFR Pilot View Save’ and ‘VFR Pilot View Reset.’
I’m not sure why you’re having this issue. Have you tried uninstalling/deleting from your content manager, then redownload? The only issue I’m having with the R66 on Series X after SU15 is the abysmal LOD / OLOD. Asobo needs to turn the sliders back up! Just watch all those taxi signs pop in and out as I zoom in and out, and pass them on the taxiway.
I’ll give the uninstall/reinstall another go, as it sounds like I’m the only one having a problem so more likely to be a corruption of some kind… Otherwise, I’ll file a report online.
Well it looks like this one is going back into the hangar, as nothing I do will fix the issue I’ve mentioned above.
However, despite my earlier worries, I decided to take a punt on the R22 and I’m glad I did - not only is the pilot in the cockpit (hurrah!), it’s a great little chopper!
Since we are both on xbox I wonder why you have this but not me?
Are you outside the chopper, just as your picture show?
One thing with cowan is that they updated the choppers so that they save settings from one flight to another, and I had lots of strange problem with this when the 500 was updated, since it started with a lot of strange things already ”saved”.
So I am thinking this might be the most easy explanation for this, so the default view has been saved like that. Questions is how do you get it to save a new one.
How does one save a new view on pc?
And are there not different default views in the menu you can flip through, could it be that its the wrong one set at default?
Gonna go home and play around with this a bit…
Edit: wait a minute! The problem is already solved?! Your post is a bit both ways…
Yeah, I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the R66, resetting all the views, saving new views, etc, but nothing works… As soon as the button to return the view to the forward looking cockpit view is pressed, it sticks me outside the chopper. I don’t understand why it’s doing it for me and nobody else, must just be a conflict of some kind but I’m not going to spend more hours trying to get to the bottom of it when I could be flying.
Still, the R22 is a nice addition to my fleet now, it may not be as fast as the R66 but it’s closer to my real-life budget than the R66 ever would be!
Ok I flew around denmark for a couple of hours yesterday and started off with thr R66 to try and replicate your view, but no deafult view is like that.
I have absolutely ni idea what to do.
Then I switched to the R22 and man I love that thing! Its just something with how it feels in the air, the R66 is more controllable and stable and really like that too, but the R22…
Then I got a HUGE bug and all trees was gone and the chopper was all pink polygons!
Tried everything to get trees back and finally after a restart they was! Puh!!
Wouldt be suprised if my bug was part of the same problem as yours, the saving of settings on the chopper. Idk.
I had that with one of theirs. Common issue across all his products it seems. You can “fix” it by fiddling around with the default viewpoint in one of the cfg files, but it will take you a while! DM me if you need instructions and I’ll dig it out.
Cowan just started a Discord channel. One of y’all having this issue should join up and ask in the ‘product help’ section. Seems he’s migrated support to discord from the empty heli-simmer forums.
Click the discord logo on the support page to sign up.
It’s a couple clicks to keep spam bots out, not hurdles. But he’s aware of the problem and already stated it will be fixed. In the meantime you just have to edit the cameras config file or move your view. I use the arrow keys to move around. Easy to set up if that’s not the default keybinds. And once you get forward/backward, left/right, and up/down movements set up, you’ll be able to get a more comfortable position in every aircraft (I rarely find default viewpoints to be ideal).
Ah, the “you just have to edit the config” answer (again!), which isn’t possible on Xbox… And as previously stated, moving the view will not allow you to save the new view in the R66 when this issue has occurred.
CowanSim need to fix the issue, rather than the customer having to fudge a temporary solution.
Well, I didn’t see your messages advising me to buy te R22 and ended up getting the R66 anyways LOL. Great heli.
But I have a question: I selected the “glass” panel option and I switched the NAV mode to VOR (green needle). I can’t go back to the GPS option.
Also, I made a simple flight plan on the Garmin screens, took off, headed out but the distance to my destination isn’t shown - it’s like the flight is not happening/progressing.
Yes I believe I know what you’re experiencing with the flight planning. It’s happened with the new glass panel updates on the other CowanSims Ships.
Seems the same problem exists on the R66. I just did a quick test inputing a direct-to in the GDU/G3X, as well as the GTN650 and the CRS arrow remains at 360°N. However when I bring up the panel with the GTN530 (click the bar above the anti torque pedals) that input corrects the CRS arrow when going back and selecting the glass panel again. I hope this helps you “work around” it until the glass panels get full flight plan functionality.
