Ha! All jokes aside, hopefully it doesn’t take that long…
Okay, quick flight with version 2.0 …
First thing I noticed is the new default head position. Higher than before, which provides a better view outside. Great with head tracking!
Don’t care too much about the G3X panel option, personally I think it looks awful. GTN support is nice, but I hardly ever use the GPS in helicopters, just the good old MK.1 eyeball.
Unfortunately no vibrations in the cockpit, still feels a bit sterile.
I am in no position to judge the flight model, but the H125 feels appropriately sensitive in hover, and easy to control in cruise. Not much pedal needed.
The slip indicator still does not work …
Cyclic movements still strongly influence torque, which is a pet peeve of mine. The fuel flow indication now only updates once a second, so it is not as irritating as before. But the values still vary greatly with fixed collective setting.
I won’t complain about the missing auto pilot, as Cowansim have explained again and again that Asobo is working on this, and it does not make sense for them to develop something on their own.
We saw in the Feb 1st MSFS development update that the Cowansim H125 is the best selling helicopter in the Marketplace, making it into the Gold category. So I hope Cowansim is making enough money to further improve the simulation depth of their helicopters.
Edit: Persistence of settings is another very welcome feature in V 2.0. Finally I don’t have to remove the nose mirror on every flight, and the button to disable dust effects is persistent as well.
Are you sure the H125 is equipped with an autopilot ?
If you read the original post again, you’ll see he explicitly writes “the missing autopilot” - so no, there is no autopilot in the H125.
Missing, means it’s supposed to be there that’s why, i don’t think there is IRL an option for an autopilot on the H125, even with the G500H avionics.
And the Asobo’s argument about autopilot is imo wrong, as HPG perfectly ( with months and months of work ) simulated Helionix one. But Cowansim business plan is : make many addons, with simple systems, while HPG is make few, but spend months and months tweaking and developing. Quantity is not always paired with quality. The H125 is flyable though, except for some aerodynamics bugs coming from the sim’s engine, which HPG managed to avoid with it’s own aerodynamics.
It just seems cowansim does not want into that path, and just let the sim engine do all the work.
V2 is not a good update many people ( according to chat on discord) have gone back to V1.02.
Flight model has gone very sloppy, a loss in tail rotor authority causing very strange yaw, it is now very hard to keep stable i am trying to persevere with it but the AS350 was reknown for its stability and in v1.02 was stable but it now feels wishy washy. The EFIS doesn’t seem to have a brightness control on it ( please tell me if it does) so for me its washed out entirely
Rotor Blur now looks like rotor strobe ( he did same on Md500)
cockpit floor textures are a mess when using utility mode (with crate)
the persistent feature IS good though i do like that
There sure is an autopilot control panel in the Cowansim H125. Let’s see if I can link a picture from Cowansim’s website here: https://cowansim.com/wp-content/uploads/CowanSim_H125_0.jpg
Above the battery master switch there is a panel labeled “HELISAS” and is has buttons for HDG, NAV, ALT etc., but it is all inoperative. It seems to be a real-life aftermarket option: Genesys Aerosystems HeliSAS for Airbus AS 350 B3/B3e (H125) 2-Axis Helicopter Autopilot
Ah well done, thanks for the information ! I didn’t see on airbus website this information, maybe i didn’t search enough, and the only real life as350 i’ve been on, were the old ones, so all simple with nothing, monoturbine.
I’m archiving older cowansim versions I bought in the marketplace. I find the 500e largely very unstable to fly now. If the h125 has become more unstable in v2 then I may forego the update as it’s one of their more enjoyable and controllable helis right now. I certainly don’t need the new avionics screens etc. That’s generally not what I fly helis for & I prefer the old analog gauges tbh.
I don’t understand why he has removed them completely. It should be selectable in an efb or something like that.
Still don’t like his rotor animations, too strobing like a movie capture or something, not real animation like in the hpg145, or the Asobo helis.
I am archiving mine too and you are right the 125 was actually the best and most stable… i am kinda getting used to it a lot more pedal work than previous but then it suddenly does odd things…
They are selectable and in the 500 too there is a switch on the dash to switch between different layouts 2 in the 125 and 3 in the 500
Oh good. Will go hunt for that switch. I hadn’t noticed it.
Yes really wish he’d leave flight model alone.
I also like the 222b which is very nice, almost hpg145 nice.
The 206 and the 500e are just not very controllable to me and v2 seems worse than previous versions. They are now both left in the hanger. Fortunately they were all Christmas sale items, so no big loss.
i found the 206 B3 upgrade a huge improvement in the flight model it feels more solid but the 500 was terrible and the huge lean was back i improved it slightly by editing the config file as someone suggested but that’s not an option for market place buyers
The 500e and the 206 give me sore wrists trying to constantly micro adjust my hotas to keep them stable. Also both almost give me motion sickness as they are constantly moving around (horizon etc).
Not really sure they are meant to behave like that, but for now they are permenantly parked for me. I also don’t mind the Asobo Bell 407 which isn’t nearly as bad as I first remember it.
Well reading these bad things about the updated flying I wont update this when it comes to the mp. I love this chopper and its problably the best overall in the game.
Updates to the choppers in this game have a sad history of destroying the good ones and not fixing the bad ones.
The original 222 was just wonderful.
The original cabri was the best chopper the game has ever had.
I’m finding the V2.0 update to be very good.
I still prefer the 6 pack gauges, since that is what I’ve seen in all of the Astars I’ve been in IRL, but it’s nice to have the option.
The SAS panel is there in the Cowansim helis because it’s available and works in the XPlane counterparts they were ported from. It doesn’t make sense to remove the panel if the functionality is coming…
And the discussion about HPG having an autopilot has no bearing on the native autopilot. They had to develop it to create the SAS functionality that defines the flight dynamics of the Airbus helicopters they modeled.
I just flew helis for the first time in months and the 500 and 125 seemed extremely ‘busy’. I flew them around for a while but it seemed like a ton of work, especially managing torque and collective in turns. I didn’t even ‘note’ what was off about them, I got everything ‘done’ but it all seemed like a huge PITA and never felt like flying. My 125 still has the steam gauges though?? I have no desire to chase a digital VSI, especially as any of the current LCD screens that aren’t the G3000/1000 are an unreadable glare fest.
I got tired of flying my ‘nice’ helis and went back to some time in the G2 and 407 and they seemed pleasant enough. Not exactly complex aircraft, but hell at least felt like I was flying… Could get to and land exactly where I looked and wanted to go, with my hands and feet just doing whatever they were doing to get me there.
I find this module a pleasure to fly. I’m not that fussy on the instruments, but I can fly it nice and smooth with no issues. Lands well too. Works for me.
With v2 I need practically zero pedal to lift off the ground. Only once I’m about 10-15 feet in the air does it start to yaw to the left.
