Previously I’ve been flying the Guimbal Cabri G2 but fancied a change so I bought the CowanSim M500.
It’s a great add-on with good sounds too, but I’m wondering if the real thing is as twitchy as the sim version?
It seems to need practically no cyclic input at all, just micro-moves - is this normal?
I’m using a Virpil Collective and extended Virpil Cyclic with TPR pedals and running in VR.
Most helos, based on real world experience in a Bell 206 and an AS365, need just fingertip movements on the cyclic. the smaller the squirrelier.
OK, thanks.
It’s a nippy little thing compared to the G2
My landings have improved though, not always where I want them but…
Just to clarify the Cowan Simulation is a Mcdonnell Douglas MD 500e variant. This is a full size, jet powered rotorcraft.
A M500 (mini 500) is a piston (oops TURBINE) powered kit helicopter. GotFriends makes this rotorcraft.
Yes helicopters are “twitchy” if you don’t stay ahead of the helicopter. You’ll learn the muscle memory and won’t need to react as much once you get the “feel”. Just takes some seat time. Adjusting your sensitivities will help you as well.

Just to clarify as well, our Mini-500 is a Turbine variant, not piston.
