Brief description of the issue:
Hi,
My computer setup is the following:
- CPU = i9-9900k OC at 5Ghz
- GPU = RTX 3080 OC at 2Ghz
- RAM = 32 Gb
- MSFS installed on a dedicated SSD
I am surpised that I only meet around 30-40 FPS with this setup, without a significant effect of flight conditions, wether I am on a A320 above a cloudy New York, or in a Cessna by clear weather in a desertic area.
Settings on MSFS are detailed below. I have it based on High preset with some details tweaked to try to improve performance.
Another observation is that CPU as GPU are both not running at full power. I do not go above 70% on GPU and around 40/50% on CPU.
My GPU driver is up to date ==> 471.11 (July 15th 2021)
I have nothing running on the background.
I change NVIDIA control panel to ensure maximum performance (see below)
I also changed the Microsoft game performance settings for high performances (see below)

You possibly have an underpowered PSU or you have an energy saving profile enabled in your system settings.
Thanks for your answer.
I have a Corsair RMx 750 W 80+
I am able to run 3D mark / Heaven benchmark at full power. Any other game reaches relatively high FPS.
Just launched Red Dead Redemption 2 for a check : 100fps and 90% GPU load
Thanks for your feedback. Could you precise ? English is not my mother tongue.
NVCP set mode de failble latence to au. I think is the only setting that needs changing.
I see you are running 4k @ 100% render, this is very demanding because of the large amount of data that must be processed, so your fps is not particularly bad but I don’t understand why your cpu is not working harder, at least 1 core should be working above 90%. Are you set to high performance mode in your Windows power management settings? The other possibility is that your PC is being throttled because something is running too hot.
If I interprete everything correctly, you may be MainThread limited.
Did you make sure that not one core/thread is above 90% usage?
The figures I am seeing indicates 35% CPU use, but that could be only an average of all your cores.

Thanks for your quick answers.
@DensestSnail693 I changed the low latency setting. I did not catch any changes. I think also that this is really demanding. I saw similar framerates with RTX 3090s 4k and ultra settings.
@ITDreamFly You are correct, 35% is averaged. I tested another fly with the A32N above New York and OSD of all cores, main threat limiting but max core reaches 70-75% load.
I am in high performance mode in windows power management setting.
Max temp is CPU at about 70°C max peak, both GPU and CPU stays below 70°C under load.
If you can, maybe wait until SU5 releases, since it should tackle performance issues you may be in luck and your issue disappears with it.
@ITDreamFly Obviously cannot wait to try this, as anybody I think !
@MichaMMA Thanks but I do not find any solutions… it seems that Nexus released a patch once a while ago but not available anymore
What people need to understand is that currently few games or programs are devoloped to run on more than a couple of threads and even when they are it is usually just low level stuff that can be separated out of the mainthread without too much difficulty. To split out interconnected processes where every change affects another is about as hard as it gets and only now are we starting to see improvements in this area with A.I. assisted programming. Spreading load over multiple cores will be come more and more the norm (or so my 3D graphics coding nephew keeps telling me) but right now there’s still much behind the scenes needing to be developed first. I actually think even before the upcoming improvements Asobo are ahead of most others for such a mammoth undertaking as MSFS, not only do they have at least two threads working hard (although not equally) several others are being used for the more mundane stuff in the background.
Fully agree @DensestSnail693.
The upgrade in performance just showed by ASOBO is a demonstration of that. I can imagine the amount of time needed to more a less start from scratch some aspects of the 3D engine.
I will consider chaging my PSU as some calculation tools tells me that with the overclocking and amount or FAN and USB devices I have plugged in, It is becoming a the edge of PSU capability…

I’ve always found those tools overestimate by quite a margin. Before upgrading I suggest using freeware tools that can show if you’re being limited or simply unplug as much of the other stuff as you can to lower the load and then compare your results.

As others suggest wait for SU5.
I’m not going to rant a long paragraph on how things work in this sim because only the Asobo coders truly know what is going on.Altough we have clues hang in and leave it to the pros.
I get your point @MLTAVIATOR99 but the question has to be asked as many time if necessary to highlight issues.
I am sure you also undersand that You and I are not buying a game to wait until improvements, and that is not to say that it is not playable or not an excellent game already.
There is so much pressure to get software out in the market that few developer will ever deliver a final product that doesn’t need patching later. Alphas and Betas can’t account for everything and even then big problems can be missed simply because they never showed up in testing.

Have you looked in your nvidia settings as my frame rate had been clamped at 30fps. Once I lifted it up to 90fps I saw a noticeable increase in frame rates at altitude and now manage 70-80 fps, sadly when approaching airports and from the cockpit I still get stutters and the frame rate drops to around 21 - 28 fps.
I use an RTX 2080 super 8GB GPU?
Yes. Look at first post. Middle of the picture you have nvidia control panel settings
Unable to see what your frame rates are set at but ok.
I did not set anything. No limitation due to GSync as it is off.
Is it your question ?
