CPU or GPU upgrade now?

I have a 5800X CPU with a RTX3080 GPU, flying @ 1440P . I fly a lot of VFR and in heavy load areas I’m barely getting 30fps. I do keep my settings pretty high. In order to get the best gain in smoothness, do you recommend:
1-upgrade the CPU/MBD/RAM to 7800X3D etc.
2-upgrade the GPU to 4080 Super (4090 not in budget)
3-wait for MSFS 2024 to see if it will use multiple cores
Curious as to everyone’s opinions. Thanks!

What does MSFS Dev Mode FPS tell you is most often limiting performance? mainthread (CPU) or GPU?
eg. here, back three years ago, my GPU was what was holding my system back.

Upgrading the CPU will give you the best uplift at 1440p - I would not even consider a GPU upgrade at that resolution unless you like wasting money.

You don’t need to upgrade to the 7800X3D to get a massive performance uplift. Even the 5800X3D will significantly increase performance, and has the huge advantage of not needing to buy a new motherboard and RAM.

Mainthread limited with a 5800X most likely. The 3080 will have no issues running at 1440p.

I can say that when I upgraded from a 5800X to a 5800X3D I saw a significant improvement in CPU-limited performance. I agree that OP’s 3080 is well suited to running 1440p.

OP’s RdrThread number is puzzling. Something else is going on. I’ve never seen numbers that high, no matter the plane or the location. I don’t really know what that number is related to.

Maybe make sure RAM is running on an XMP profile (and RAM is in the correct MOBO slots (check the MOBO manual,) and that all the other tips and tricks (HAGS Off, Up-To-Date System BIOS and Chipset Drivers, Resizable BAR enabled, and especially NvCP settings,) all of which are detailed in numerous threads and YouTube videos are set properly.

I concur with previous posts.
You have an AM4 motherboard.
Swap your current CPU for a 5800X3D.
Then tell us how it went
