Looking for your feedback and comments in order to decide. Last year I built a PC with the following specs:
CPU: Intel i7 10700KF @4.9 GHz all cores.
RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600
GPU: ASUS Dual RTX 3070 OC.
MB: ASUS TUF-Gaming-Z590-PLUS-WIFI (DDR4)
– ignoring all other PC parts.
Currently I’m highly interested in buying the i9 12900K but as we all already know, that will require to change the MB to support the 1700 socket with the Z690. So here comes the question and the decision… Is it better/recommended to upgrade to DDR5 and Z690 (considering how expensive it is the DDR5 sticks now) or just stay with DDR4 and Z690, but with the future “issue” that it would require a future upgrade again to get some good DDR5 sticks? Would you prefer to make the “full” investment now or later?
Thanks a lot for your comments and help in advance!
I did the same thing. Stay with ddr4 MOBO and ram. The cost for ddr5 is not worth it currently as the memory timing is slow and ram speeds are not a bottleneck for MSFS. Spend your money later this year on an rtx 4080 or wait for rtx 50xxx. Oh and 12700k is also a great choice. But either way don’t expect large performance increases going from your current cpu to a 12th gen. I did see some help in VR but not massive as gpu is the limiter far more than cpu.
Not worth the expense for MSFS if you ask me
Upgraded from a Ryzen 3600X to a 5950X. Was a big improvement for video and photo editing but barely made a difference in MSFS.
A 3080TI might be the only thing giving you a slight edge, but personally I wouldn’t bother either because of the ridiculous prices.
