Been having some issues with FS2024 lately, after it performing great since upgrading from FS2020. When flying, I get huge microstutters appearing from seamingly nowhere. They are so bad that the audio crackles, with the CPU latency reaching as high as 65ms. It’s fine during the climbout, and gets worse the further I fly. This happened during SU1 and now aswell in SU2. I attached 2 photos on my decent down to EDDL, one with the stutter and one performing as it always did. Although I am flying in a heavy scenario, it used to be just fine flying the Avro RJ into London City.
As far as I remember I haven’t changed anything addon related, other than updating my Nvidia drivers. What I have done now is to clear all my shader cache files, including the rolling cache but seems like that didn’t help with anything.
Has anybody else experienced this? Really hoping to get it fixed.
What CPU are you using, and how many cores does it have?
You’re definitely not alone, I’ve been dealing with the same issues for about six months now, and it’s gotten so frustrating that I’ve ended up sticking with MSFS 2020 instead.
In my case, the CPU hits 100% on all the main cores, which leads to audio crackling and even causes Windows to lag. Lowering the settings can help a bit, but even when I set everything to Low and reduce the LOD to 100, the CPU still maxes out. It feels like the CPU is doing all the heavy lifting while the GPU sits at 40% and is idle.
What GPU that you running alongside it? I’m still testing on my end with Nvidia CP settings, Downgrade drivers to 566.63 - As I’m on 3090, and locked FPS at 30 and using FS3 to get to 60.
I don’t know if my situation is related, but it sounds close and quite a few other threads out there report similar symptoms. I have now duplicated this issue 6 flights in a row so maybe that can help diagnose it. Background: i14900, 5070ti, 32g, zero add-ons or customizations, just the NVIDIA app and Steam 2024. No issues at all for the first 4-6 weeks, no stutters or anything, my 2024 experience has been great. GPU typically 98%, CPU 25%, FPS very solid depending on what graphics I have experimented with. Last 3-4 weeks have noticed a wacky stuttering issue. When I look up at the built in NVIDIA monitoring, the GPU % is down to 30 or 40%, CPU is up to 80%, the FPS has went through the floor while the sim is a stuttering mess. Tonight the audio cracked which made me think of this thread.
I thought I found the smoking gun through the Tab button to open the EFB, but tonight its not just that, I have to use the arrow buttons on keyboard to look around with EFB open and that triggers it. Then, on another flight, I didn’t touch the EFB, but I did look down and touch the toggle stick on the G1000 with the mouse and ■■■■ the same issues showed up. When I reset the map and zoomed back to normal flying view, the stats returned to normal and I returned to the airport.
In another thread, people complain about stuttering when approaching airports. My issues happen out in the middle of the everglades away from airports, but I am looking at and touching certain things in the cockpit. Could they be doing the same thing preparing for landing and it just seems airport related? I don’t know, I have never owned a gaming computer before so I have no knowledge of this stuff, but when I look at the numbers I was able to put in a spreadsheet, something goofy is going on . (C172 Cargo G1000)
I have never seen my GPU be that high since MSFS2024. It’s always been under 30% - Lowering the settings to be able to reduce CPU load makes no difference, but rather lowering the GPU down to 20%.
But yeah, the audio crackling appears when the CPU is hitting maxed out, no more resources left, so it will start to do that. In most cases, Windows will start to slow up also.
So you’re also getting high CPU and just started for you in the last 6 months?
