The BGE Crane Power Station, with its Twin Cooling Towers (a key landmark for KMTN - Martin State Airport, MD USA) was demolished yesterday 8-20-22.
But currently, those Twin Cooling Towers, are missing from MSFS as are other Power Station Cooling Towers.
Bad news – they will be missed by local pilots.
Good News - Asobo will not have to waste any time removing them from MSFS – it seems they never put them there in the 1st place (or they went missing in a SU ? )
Unfortunately, I can imagine them magically re-appearing in MSFS at some time in the future, as they will still be on BING Maps for some time into the future)
Too bad!! Instead of making some old power plant explode they could have made a museum or just keep it there as some cool creepy abandoned building for urban explorers.
Where I live, we’re looking at the same thing a few years down the road. It’s hard to imagine the skyline without three stacks, which have never been represented in MSFS. Ironic if they get added just in time for the real world stacks to be demolished.
I think this addon placed only one of those cooling stacks into the sim but I have not yet reinstalled it since building new PC recently. I flew many hours IRL out of KMTN in the past and these cooling towers were a commonly used checkpoint…
OR – build a whole slew of residential housing on the land and make a killing … which is what the owner of the Property is reported to be considering.
I will miss Crane, both as a GA Pilot who flies in the area, but I do have fond memories of visiting the Power Plant many times in connection with work, and knew many of the managers & staff at that plant when it was operational.
For Historic reason, I would not mind a separate Scenery Mod, that put in the Towers, just as I enjoy reminiscing with the Meigs Mod.
It’s a SIMULATOR – nothing should prevent it from “simulating” the world as it was in the past … (not that it does not already do that with the very dated BING data !! )
