Crash to Windows Restart

msfs-2024

Last night i was playing around with the new 350…. Everything was great.

Today, i load the simulator i go to the free flight menu, chose any plane, any airport, go to “fly now” and my PC restarts.

I never anything like this before.

That kind of instability usually is a hardware issue, device driver or overclocking that is too aggressive. Your computer should never do that for any reason.

I would start with the easiest things first like upgrading or rolling back device drivers, particularly video drivers. Check if your hardware is overclocked and maybe back it off somewhat. Also, check your memory XMP profiles and maybe try one less aggressive.

You can also perform a memory test on boot up and let it run over night. I have had seemingly random issues due to a 1-bit memory error before.

need to uninstall nvidia app for now due to a bug.

I’m waiting for this bug to be resolved so I can use nvidia app

I actually installed the latest nvidia driver today. And that is when it started happening.

I wish there was a way to easily roll back drivers in nvidia app.

Nvidia app has had more bugs than a summer camping trip lately. I cant count the times i had to uninstall the app since the 50 series release.

If you think the Nvidia driver is causing PC to reboot, uninstall Nvidia driver using the DDU program in Windows Safe Mode.

How to use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) Guide / Tutorial | Wagnardsoft

1 Download Nvidia driver 566.14
GeForce Game Ready Driver 566.14 | Windows 10 64-bit | NVIDIA

2 Install DDU
3 Unistall Nvidia driver using DDU in Windows Safe Mode.
4 Restart PC
5 Install Nvidia driver 566.14 without Nvidia geforce experience, nvidia app and nvidia audio
6 Restart PC

Not necessarily. I’m using it and it’s fine. It always has been for me.

I’m using the Nvidia app. and not suffering any crashes.

The latest app and drivers are not causing me any issues either. As far as performance with the latest driver that may be another story. Waiting for the next beta before I consider rolling back.

UPDATE: I removed latest NVIDIA driver with DDU in safe mode, intalled the driver released a few weeks ago without the app and everything is back to normal. I still dont know what was the cause of such a weird problem… but fixed for now.

It seems like you followed what I suggested - uninstalling with DDU and installing Nvidia driver version 566.14. Could you confirm?

I followed exactly what you suggested.

Update 2:

I later realized that I made a big mistake. I was playing ggpoker with a vpn and suddenly the nord vpn software crashed leaving location exposed. So i immediately pulled the plug from the pc (unplugged the psu).

Turns out that when i pulled the plug the nvidia app was in the middle of updating to latest driver. Once i figured that out, i reinstalled nvidia app and latest driver and everything works great.

Lesson: dont pull the plug of your pc while the video driver is installing.

I miss the days of CTD. I once again am ebcountering crash to windows restart.

Im using Sim Update 2 Beta

It happens ONLY in MSFS 2024. Everything works great, the game loads and I go to free flight, pick my aircraft and airport and the second I hit “start flight” my PC restarts.

Here are the facts:
Hardware: 9800X3D (OC only to +200Ghz boost which has cores running at 5425Ghz). RTX 4090.
Cooling: Koolance EXC 900 external chiller cooling both CPU and GPU.

What I have tried and failed to fix issue:

  1. removed NVIDIA driver and app using DDU in safe mode
  2. installed latest nvidia driver 572.83 (I was unable to uncheck NVIDIA app in custom installation)
  3. Stressed test my CPU and ram using OCCT for 1 hour without any errors.

This is the second time I encounter this brick wall. last month I fixed the issue by rolling back to previous driver. Everything worked great until a few days ago. There was a windows update on 3/31/25 which I uninstalled to see if it fixes the issue without success.

I know I will get comments about the NVIDIA app being unstable, the drivers having issues… but Crash to Windows restart seems a bit extreme… Am I alone with this issue???

The issue is fixed using the solution below. This is so weird!

The restart option was checked, now is unchecked. And the sim runs fine. Every day that goes by I get more confused!

“Go to the Control Panel, then navigate to System > Advanced system settings . In the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings . Under System failure , make sure the option to automatically restart is unchecked”

I have Owned MSFS 2024 since launch! I LOVE this Freakin game so much but It’s killing me with the ( BLACK SCREEN THEN RESTART) & when it does the pc restart’s but my monitor’s have no signal. To get around 2 restart’s with just 1 I need to press the restart button before the pc restart’s it’s self. Which is what evere you know. It has never restarted in the Menu. It will do it when I click Fly, After it load’s when able to click Ready, switching between ANY CAMERA. I’v let it load and just stared at the screen in discust & it has done it, Black Screen Restart. I have tried it all!! I have 3 monitor’s, tryed 1 for a while, Complete uninstall & reinstall, No mod’s, Ran in safe mode, All thing’s are up to date, Graphics I usually run Ultra & high ( Turned them to Low) no change. :face_with_bags_under_eyes: No other game has done this for me, I had 1 crash to desktop a week ago, I was so happy for that to not crash the hole pc but that only happened once. When you are immersed into the game when your face & the monitor become 1 & then BLACK SCREEN!!! I have come to the conclusion that it’s some thing in the wrong in the code when the scene switches! Like the scene when it has loaded & you are standing their looking at your aircraft with the ready button their to click & switching camera"s. Microsoft, Asobo or who ever the F k, Pleases Fix this. :expressionless_face:
