Creating MSFS Profile for other (!) applications

How can I create a MSFS profile for another application like LogiTech Gaming or others? When I want to create such a profile I’m asked to add the corresponding .exe. But MS does not allow access in any way. Even when I took “ownership” of the whole MSFS folder. I know it should be possible because I created once a MSFS profile fo RTSS, but currently I’m lost and angry …

Unless you found a way to change it, the exe should be here at the moment:
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.22.2.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

This path changes with every update due to the version # being involved.

Disclaimer - entering this folder is one thing. Making ANY changes without knowing exactly what you’re doing can brick your sim and force a reinstall.

I know where the .exe is. But it is impossible to add this .exe to a logitech profile.

You can see it maybe, but unless you do some tricky permission changes, you cannot touch it !!! You are quite limited with what you can normally do in that folder.

MS did this for good reasons

As @tclayton2k so wisely said :

Maybe I did not express myself well enough. It is not about changing anything in the MSFS folder! I just want to create a profile for MSFS in my LogiTechGaming software. For that reason, Logitech asks me to add the flightsimulator.exe. LT would not touch the .exe either. It is all about that LT recognizes that MSFS is running.

OK, so LogiTechGaming software want to know if MSFS (flightsimulator.exe) is running, but there is a problem specifying flightsimuator.exe to the LogiTechGaming software ??

Maybe the question is, how is the LogiTechGaming software detecting that MSFS is running.
What is so different about the flightsimulator.exe app, that the LogiTechGaming software cannot detect that it is running. (Looking at running apps ?)

Maybe a question for the LogiTechGaming software Tech Support.

One Brute Force way might be to make a small exe, that calls and runs flightsimulator.exe, and give the LogiTechGaming software that exe’s info.

Will the LogiTechGaming software accept a .bat file ? Then the above indirect method becomes a trivial one line batch file !!

Moved to #self-service:pc-hardware

I may add that it is not a Logitech-specific problem. It is also not possible to create an MSFS profile for RivaTunerStatisticServer. If you want to create an MSFS profile, RTSS asks you to add the fightsimulator.exe. And again, this is not possible, because of the MSFS restrictions.

Why did you move it? It is not hardware related imo. See my other post, concerning RTSS.

Because it was originally in General Discussion. We move topics to the closest appropriate subforum. It wasn’t clear what the root cause is (yet), but it definitely can’t stay in the Catch All category.

Interestingly, there’s no problem adding an MSFS-specific profile in Nvidia Control Panel, but you can’t do the same for many other “sim-adjacent” game control or game-tuning software. Razer, Logitech, etc. Whatever security-magic baked into Windows can obviously be side-stepped for NCP, but not for these other game-related applications.

i use only 3 profiles and change them by button under mouse, but understand your pain, and even get, what do you need… so… if you can not add msfs.exe you can add something third some 0 weight software, what will start before msfs and triggering the profile. don’t know exactly what is going on, but exe file of msfs strongly blocked by system, you can not start it, you can not change it, but you can found lnk what start it, and probably add it, or may be time to change to lg hub, afaik this new soft what long time ago change old lt soft… i update it couple a days ago, all my profiles stay inside mouse memory, but this hub can not read them, can not edit and can not do ■■■■ with them*, so probably better write new profiles and replace old are, but, you will have a chance lg hub can work with msfs… why is not work like nv inspector? you can just add name of exe and whatever with this name will start, profile will activated in nvidia settings
p.s. sure i don’t sure i understand everything right lol
*p.p.s ah, no, hub see them and can del them lol

Due to the fact that MS decided to put the exe into a highly restricted and protected area of the operating system, Logitech and every other game control software producer will need to a) find a way around the permissions (risky, because it exposes the OS to possible intrusion), or b) put a disclaimer on their product that it won’t work with MSFS. Don’t expect MS to offer any assistance here.

That’s too bad. It reduces possibilities like keystroke macros etc. I really don’t understand this policy.
