The only true native resolution for a VR headset is that of the actual panels.
The render resolution determined by the software is somehat arbitrarily based on a balance between image quality and performance. Generally you want at least a 1:1 image to screen resolution in the centre after the necessary distortion has been applied.
Yes, its so minimal on quest 3, that its a complete non-issue for me. The quest 3 ASW/Smoothing does have its major drawbacks though. The main one is the view of a cloudless sky, and the sea. It exhibits major āwave patternsā. Which makes sense, because its got no features to mimic. How this would ever be ironed out so to speak is anyoneās guess. Only solution is to add clouds, that solves the wavey sky.
Update: Pimax has assured me that the replacement lenses will be fully checked by a human being, and that they will be perfect examples of what they offer. ETA is 7-12 business days. I am happy with that, and will keep you all posted.
Iām in the same boat. Lens issues and replacement lenses coming with the assurance of a quality check before dispatch. Fingers crossed otherwise it will be going back.
Hi, so your one of the other fallen soldiers. Welcome to the club
Well, Pimax are aware of this thread (I made them so via a link) and they have assured me that the new lenses will be perfect. I sincerely hope that is right, i so want them to be good. Its a stunning headset apart from the faulty lenses. Balls in their court now.
Can i ask, what specifically is your lens issue? Both lenses or?
One āissueā for me in the new CL-415, is the too much obscure windshields for Virtual Reality and my HP G2 I think, maybe other new VR HMDs that have more nits, it does not matter?.
Have someone got already the CL-415 to test?, is there a noticeable difference with the Crystal Light 200nits (I think) vs the HP G2 150nits?.
Around a month ago, i began a timeline of events from my experience with the Pimax crystal light. See above.
i am very sad to report that the replacement lenses did turn up yesterday, and are far worst than the originals. So very sad. I wanted to love this HMD, after all, its screens behind these wonky milk bottles are amazing.
What;s annoyed me most, is that I highly doubt these replacement lenses were checked before being sent (as promised by pimax) and this was evident by the factory sealed wrappers they arrived in. It seems know one checks them, they simply roll of the production line⦠and faulty yet again. That was a big anti-climax when i opened the box.
Very very disappointed. Have requested a full refund. Now i need to save up for the VR1 from Somnium, which i simply cannot afford at this point.
I have also pointed this set of comments to Pimax, and told them clearly, i would document the process in full.
Next step: How long will it take to complete this awful returns procedure, and for people like me to get a refund in full, and in a timely manner.
Last thing to note, is that replies from Pimax were very quick regarding the lenses, but as soon as a refund was mentioned, the emails have so far, gone unanswered.
Very sorry to hear about the Pimax quality and support issues you suffered Cornhole2840. This and other sagas (including my experience) with Pimax - particularly their lens quality shortcomings have sealed the deal for me.
I do hope they stand up and give you a full refund ASAP.
Thanks for the heads up on the issues you experienced with your Pimax Crystal Light.
My lenses arrived yesterday but I am away from home for a few days so will check them over the weekend. I didnāt have much hope they will fix my problem but wanted to try all possibilities before I send PCL back. Thankfully I bought it on Amazon so donāt expect issues with the refund.
How easy it is to replace lenses? Is there any instruction included?
I was (based on youtube reviews) certain this would be my next headset⦠then I began reading your contributions to this thread and began investigating further.
Yesterday I took a look at their discord for the first time. Wow, a lot of the same there.
I messaged them through the website and the response (AI generated, I believe) included this sentence: āAll headsets will have manual inspections before packagingā. I guess youāve heard that one before, huu?
Perhaps the bottom line is that itās too bad we canāt all be widely subscribed youtubers receiving pristine headsets to review that actually were inspected by a human.
The company may be a victim of their own success. Furiously churning out headsets to meet the overwhelming demand, while quality suffers in the process. I donāt know.
If reported experiences such as yours and those on discord change for the better, I would love to own this headset, but at present, I just canāt pull the trigger.
Got my replacement lens a couple of days ago but was waiting on Pimax support to reset the trial counter for my headset. That was done this morning but Iām away for the weekend so Iāll install and test the new lens next week before making a decision.
