CTD exact same spot after clicking on "Fly"

I’ve gone back and forth with Zendesk for 2 weeks and they finally gave up and said they couldn’t help me. I’ve replaced all of my computer hardware besides the motherboard and processor (RAM, SSD, GPU, PSU). Upgraded from Windows 10 to 11. Reinstalled the game twice. Did all of the official troubleshooting and any random tips I found on the forums numerous times. Nothing.

I still have the exact… same… CTD… at the exact… same… spot… after over a month of troubleshooting.

“Upgraded” over the top, or reformatted and started from scratch?

Really sounds like a software issue outside of MSFS that’s tripping it up.

What ISP and Network setup do you have at home? (Router etc). How are you connecting the PC?

Brand new SSD, brand new Win11 installation. It’s not my network. Standard network setup with Spectrum, ARRIS modem, Netgear router, ethernet cable going directly into the PC. I’ve tried it with and without any sort of connection and with and without multiplayer, Bing maps, etc.

I had the same problem with zero software installed on the PC. Windows, updates, drivers, Steam, MSFS, that’s it.

Oh boy… how ridiculously frustrating! ;(

I’ll have a think but that’s a tough one to solve.

Have you done the health check steps? I know it’s a new everything… but, Windows!!

Run Command Prompt as Administrator (right click it for that option in start menu), then one at a time in this order:

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /checkhealth

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /scanhealth

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

sfc /scannow

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Also, what GPU do you have? What CPU?

Done Bios updates? Tried a different GPU driver (older)?

List all your hardware in detail - exact models of everything, please.

I’ve done both of those about a dozen times each over a month or two. I’ve overclocked, underclocked (support asked me to try it in desperation), ran stress tests, Windows memory diagnostic, etc.

CPU: Intel i7-8700 - purchased in 2018

MB: ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING - purchased in 2018

PSU: Corsair RM100e - replaced my EVGA 650 GQ 2 weeks ago to eliminate any doubt of power needs

RAM: Crucial Vengeance LPX DDR4 64GB - upgraded from 16GB same brand 2 weeks ago

GPU: Radeon XFX RX 6800 - upgraded from Geforce 1060 Gaming 6GB 2 weeks ago

SSD: Samsung 990 EVO SSD M.2 - replaced my Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SATA from 2018 two weeks ago

I have a feeling my motherboard is the holdout culprit. I have no evidence of that but at this point I’ve done absolutely everything that I couldn’t rule out ghosts haunting my computer.

I’ve done every update I possibly could that I or Zendesk could think of and I tried the 2 year old Nvidia driver they suggested as well. No change.

Make sure it and all drives used by MSFS are formatted with NTFS

That doesn’t matter much because I’ve tried with each one plugged in or unplugged including zero peripherals going into my computer besides a Logitech mouse which I needed to open Steam and press play.

Regardless:

Logitech G502
Logitech K120 keyboard
Saitek X52 Pro
Logitech G Pro Flight rudder pedals
TrackIR 5

And remember that I had the exact same CTD at the exact same spot with none of these plugged in nor the drivers or software installed.

Looks like they moved my post to its own thread so I’d like to clarify that this doesn’t CTD at the initial loading screen but after I click “Fly”.

Also, anytime I select an airport while setting up a free flight it’ll start zooming in on the map to the airport and then freeze and crash.

Try
How to fix loading issues after clicking “Fly” or “Ready to fly” button – Microsoft Flight Simulator Support (zendesk.com)

Hello @DeviantCelt,
I will update the topic title to reflect that. In the future, you can edit your title by clicking on the “pencil” icon next to it.

Is it crashing on all games or just MSFS? If it’s all games, try rolling your GPU driver back. On my 7800XT, every game crashes on the latest 24.7.1 driver, but rock solid on 24.5.1.

Do you have Logitech Options installed? If so, try uninstalling it. That’s been another culprit on my end and uninstalling it resolved sim CTDs.

Have you checked the event viewer for clues yet?

I’ve done that. Here is the last thing Zendesk told me in an email.

“Unfortunately, we are out of options with this issue. You have tried everything we can think of… we can only ask you to post your issue to the forum and see if anyone from the community can provide you with additional troubleshooting steps.” - (7/24/24)

I’m just finally doing that and posting my issue here. I have zero expectations of this game ever working. I have almost 80 hours in it and 78 of those hours have been troubleshooting. I got it on day one in 2020 and it worked for a while before I quit because I stopped pilot training. I only tried to get this game working again in June because I started pilot training again. It hasn’t worked in 4 years.

I have zero issues with any other game or anything in general on that system. I’ve overclocked and stress tested the GPU and CPU and even that never crashed. Please note that the overclocking wasn’t the problem. Zendesk even had me undervolt my CPU as a last ditch shot in the dark.

MSFS is the only thing on that computer that has a problem. It’s honestly pretty astounding that it’s so stable.

Logitech Options is not installed.

The event viewer throws a generic error out that I’ve seen a hundred times on these forums. It’s no help.

edit: here’s the error it reports

This suggests trouble loading data so yes your drives do need to be in top order and correctly formatted. Not all games require NTFS but MSFS does and stipulates it in the install notes.

Ok. Well it’s a brand new Samsung 990 Pro EVO formatted in NTFS with a brand new Windows 11 install.
