Brief description of the issue:

CTD while loading approx. 2/3rds way into load screen Ran the following commands (admin rights):
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /checkhealth

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /scanhealth

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

sfc /scannow

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

The last one reclaimed (4) packages and store cleanup recommended was: Yes

All others finished successfully. Going to reboot PC again and retry the sim. Rebooted PC and internet already once and was not able to get sim to load. The sim was working just last night beautifully. Have made no changes to it since then.

Rebooted PC then…

Started the sim it’s now giving me the update available screen. LOL! I’m already on the latest version 1.29.28.0

End

Just to add…

The sim was running without issue last night and have added no content since these CTDs. Ran the following commands with admin rights…

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /checkhealth

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /scanhealth

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

sfc /scannow

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

The last one reclaimed (4) packages and store cleanup recommended was: Yes

All others finished successfully. Going to reboot PC again and retry the sim. Rebooted PC and internet already once and was not able to get sim to load. The sim was working just last night beautifully. Have made no changes to it since then.

Getting weirder now…

Just rebooted PC and started the sim it’s now giving me the update available screen. LOL! I’m already on the latest version 1.29.28.0

I am also seeing the sim consistently CTD very soon after launching, even before the Asobo / MGS videos roll. Event viewer shows ntdll as the faulting module:

Faulting application name: FlightSimulator.exe, version: 1.29.29.0, time stamp: 0x00000000

Update:

The sim finished doing it’s update (even though it was up to date LOL!) and afterwards started and ran without issue.

Update:

Thought I had this whipped but no. CTDs continued. But I did figure it out. Somehow the sim at start was saying it needed an update (even though I was on the latest version) anyhow after it completed it had in fact completely installed the sim in it’s default location (C:) even though I had already installed to D:

Exactly how Microsoft determined it needed to be installed again is beyond me.

Anyhow it left me with no choice but to remove everything and start fresh. Needless to say I was not happy.

Update:

Well this turned into quite a fiasco…

Once installed when I ran the sim I was greeted with the…essential update is needed blah…blah…blah…

Only option is to click ‘Ok’ which closes the sim. Start sim again and same message appears.

I have to say Asobo/Microsoft if there was one thing you need to get right that is the install needs to be simple and pain free. My install was not in the default location of C: but rather a separate drive (D: MSFS Simulator). I ended up doing a reinstall of the OS due to the sim not installing and giving repeated errors within the MS Store app while trying to install.

Chose to do an OS install while not losing apps.

Once the OS install was complete I downloaded the sim I moved it from C: to D: via the app config option. Started the sim and when greeted with the update screen and choice of folder destination chose my install location of (D: MSFS Simulator).

Now we wait…
