Here is a weird one that has come up and bitten me this weekend. I didn’t want to post it in the Bug Reporting Hub as I kind of know half of what is happening, but I need some advice from others if they have any ideas.
Doing a group flight yesterday, I was getting constant CTD. Happened when I was getting within model loading range of other aircraft (so like 3 miles or so).
Spent 3 hours trying to figure it out - tried everything as process of elimination (same plane in other location, different plane with the group, on a different sever in the same area, removed mods that are managed by Addons Linker and model matching M3, reset Nvidia settings) and the only “solution” was to run in Safe Mode.
Found that one of the guys, flying a freeware aircraft (Bagolu’s C172) seemed to be the issue, but only for me. All the others in the group had no issue together with him.
I do not have this aircraft installed and nor do any of the other players. When the guy went to another server, and I was flying with the REST of the group but not him, it was fine. As soon as he came back to the same server, I CTD. So it must be that, or so I thought.
Today I did another group flight with the same group but the guy (and that plane) were not present. Still, when I get near to others, instant CTD. So it is not JUST that plane triggering me. I don’t really know what it’s doing.
BUT I have done other group flights with no problem. So it’s SOMETHING in ONE OR MORE of the planes the group is flying, tripping my sim over regardless of what I am flying WHEN I have SOME payware stuff active.
It is really hard to diagnose as it ONLY happens in some group flights with an unknown plane that is making it happen! But it must be SOMETHING directly installed in my Community folder or Official folder (marketplace purchases) that is not loaded in Safe Mode.
I only use Addons Linker to manage stuff that I download as ZIP’s (free and paid). Some things stay in Community always so I need to sift through (mainly Just Flight planes, stuff from Orbx Central and the Comanche).
Question is WHERE do I look for starters?
- What could even be MAKING this happen in the first place? One of my aircraft? Sound addons? I have not added any new aircraft or mods at my end since it was last working fine for many weeks with this same group so not sure what has changed!
- I mean it is trying to load a model visual at the point of CTD, and matching it to something I have active, why would it CTD? What could it be?
- How would you go about discovering the culprit? I am suspecting the Boris Sound Packs perhaps, but as I say I have not adde4d anything recently and it has been fine!
I have seen and fixed a lot in my time in MSFS, but I am totally lost with this problem. Any ideas?
