I was away for a week, and on my first session back had 2 CTD’s with the above error
Only happens in group flights (it seems) and only after some time. Often hours, sometimes 40 mins. But I can fly alone ALL DAY and it’s fine?
And seems to coincide with a ‘spike’ in the heaviness of the situation (lots of aircraft around and I turn my head towards them, in VR Quest 3),
I did install a couple of new mods (just freeware airports, but some had not been updated in 3 years)
I was using 552.44 (as recommended by Virtual Desktop - Quest 3).
Updated to latest 566.03 now.
Even after that (which actually seems to perform quite a bit better, more fluid in VR) I had a TOTAL PC lockup and forced reboot during a group flight. Not even in a heavy situation this time. We were all in the same aircraft and in relatively light scenery. This one did not leave an error in Event Viewer.
And one more time with the nvwgf2umx.dll error.
After that, I did a full Windows Safe Mode DDU clean / uninstall and reinstalled the 566.03 driver.
Also reverted settings to default (I was using Profile Inspector to enable Rebar). Now I will just run with ONLY 16x Anisotropic and Prefer Max Performance in NVCP.
Not had chance to check this properly since - fine alone, but as I say it only seems to occur in group flights.
I have already lowered my RAM speed. It is using DHCP but at 5600Mhz (6000 was unstable). 4 x 16gb DDR5 Kingston Fury.
I have a 1200w top quality power supply.
Maybe it is one of the mods.
Or LittleNavMap?? That is the only other thing I have been using more heavily than I was two weeks ago when it was all fine.
I realise the reboot points to HARDWARE, but somehow I still think it’s the sim making it happen in some way. System is generally stable. Ohly MSFS makes this stuff happen.
It’s a thought, but I don’t know if it is directly related to the VR headset. Could be! Has been fine for ages though, this just started happening this weekend.
I am not using GF Experience (not installed).
I have not used the “new app”, but I did do a clean install (DDU) and rebooted.
Could you let me know if you are playing on a phone, tablet, laptop or PC?
I noticed you didn’t specify your complete setup so list your hardware in details, please. Also, I’m curious to understand why you are testing MSFS with addons and other 3rd-party software running in the background.
I’m not really “testing”, just trying to see if it works
It’s been working fine for ages though, and no changes – all of a sudden this is happening. For sure when I have some time to dig more into it I will try with empty community etc.
“3rd party software”, you mean Little Nav Map?
I mean I am running a lot of stuff, but I can’t see what has suddenly changed since last months. I have been using LNM for ages too, and not had this before so I don’t suspect that. It is a weird one!
EDIT: also the only way I can really “test” this is in group flights as that is when it trips (I think)… so I need little nav map.
I’m on widows update 24H2, big change for windows itself (smooth, a lot improvements) but maybe MSFS was not ready for it. Also I turned off Nvidia filters: looks like this make my CTDs. Still testing…
Could you please let me know since when you have the 4x16GB RAM configuration? I’m assuming that before it was a 2x16GB setup.
Also, could you specify the exact models of the RAM modules?Additionally, you forgot to mention the model of your motherboard.
I guess they gave me 2 sets of the -32 code. (4 x 16gb sticks).
I have tried G.Skill Neo “expo” ram but it would not post with that (at default settings). I might try buying another 2 x 32gb kit but unsure which brand would be best now. Not had a lot of luck.
Still does not explain this latest CTD that came from nowhere?
Hmm. Well I don’t really get it. It has been working fine for 1.5 years until Friday.
I have ran OCCT test on it (1 hour) and no problems with the RAM at that speed.
Running lower speed will cripple my MSFS performance, no? And how it matches to the Infinity Fabric speed, means the whole system will be running really sub-optimally?
G.Skill Flare x5 6000mts (also Expo) have been great for me. And they look cool as hell, and no RGB
Both the Cl32 and CL30. Can check exact ID if interested.
Just a quick note: the fact that your G.Skill RAM uses Hynix chips doesn’t necessarily specify which die type they are, like M-die or A-die. Simply mentioning ‘Hynix’ alone doesn’t indicate their specific overclocking potential
