CTD's using dlss framegen - SU2+3

Please add the msfs-2020 or msfs-2024 tag to your post, depending on which sim your post is about.

Couldn’t find this subject in other post, hope some one can help me understand what is going on so I can solve it.

After many tests I found that my frequently CTD’s (80% of all flights) where caused by using nvidia frame generator on. Some times it crashes after 5 min. sometimes after 2 or more hours. Didn’t use skip function but did use simrate.

CTD’s started about 6 weeks ago while I was in SU 2, now same thing continues in SU 3 (didn’t join beta)

Things I did so far:

  • Turned off all over clocks (CPU+GPU)
  • Update to the latest BIOS
  • Tried different dlss files, using dlss swapper (also msfs native one)
  • Cleared community folder
  • Turned off all ai traffic
  • Turned down all settings quite a bit
  • Cleared cache
  • Cleared shader cache

Next steps I took (and repeated steps above):

  • DDU nvidia driver and updated to last driver
  • re installed msfs 2024
  • Some 100 test flights (most in career mode)

After lot’s of testing the different settings, I noticed without framegen on I didn’t have any CTD. After that I tried FSR3 (or 4?) and also no CTD’s. Turned on nvidia framegen on again and I get immediatly CTD’s again. I don’t onderstand why because I have a nvidia 40 GPU and it worked all great before. Hope some one can help me understand what’s going on and even better can help me solve it. Mostly because this is too annoying for me (sim is running fine atm but it’s bugging me )

1 thing that changed around the time the CTD’s started was my monitor. I was playing on an old tv 1080p 39” 60 Hz changed to a ultra wide screen 1440p 43” 140 Hz.

Other PC setup:

  • I9 14900kf (tested and 100% no degradation)
  • Asus rtx 4070 ti super (16 Gb)
  • 64 gb ddr 5 6400
  • 2 Tb samsung pro M2 drive

Again hope some one can help me allthough at the moment with FSR3 msfs is running smoothly at high/ultra settings.

I had something similar a few months back and did all of the steps you mentioned above which took hours and did not solve the problem. I then did a “repair” of the windows OS and it downloaded a patch of some kind from MS that reinstalled pieces of the OS. That solved the problem for me. Good luck, it’s maddening to do all of those things and still have something basic like DLSS frame gen not working and/or causing CTDs.

Thx a lot… didn’t do that and will try :+1:t3:

Edit: did you do a complete repair, so also with deleten your files or a “normal” repair?

Normal repair where it saved my files. I didn’t have to completely wipe the whole machine.

Repaired windows, took me almost all day because some software I use next to the sim needed to be installed again. Have it all up and running now.

I could do 2 test flights and the performance was great. Allthough it’s a bit soon I had no CTD yet…. offcourse need more flights to get a better insight but it looks promising :folded_hands: (also need to see it over the next few days as the sim seems to run better from one day to another)

Anyway a big thanks for your advice …cheers

Edit: did 3 more flights and still going strong so I think reparing windows did the job. Allthough it’s still a bit quick for a solid conclusion this give me already much more conference… before atleast 3 of the 5 flights would CTD
