Don’t you think it’s a bit of unfair towards the local retailer if you have a look in his/her shop, ask for advice but buy it online elsewhere?
I’ll buy wherever I get the best deal and if the retailer wants to match it - and if asked many will - I’ll buy from them. Unfortunately it’s no longer a fair world out there.
It isn’t a fair world, but it is that way at least in part because of that attitude.
That retailer has already provided you with a service. So to ask him to just match some online retailer is simply disrespectful.
And people wonder why bricks and mortar stores cannot compete with online-only retailers and disappear from the High Street/Main Street…
When I needed a new oven, and hob, I told them I could get it for such, and such a price online, and I said if they could match that I’ll buy from them instead, and they said yes. They wouldn’t fit it all for me, but I got a third party to do that anyway.
I have seen advertising where they will do just that as well, though admittedly that’s pretty rare.
Years ago, when I was a younger man I flew radio control models. I often had a choice to mail order or at my local hobby shop and I always went to the local guy regardless of price. After all, that’s where I could go for advice, the latest information on building technique and for a good bs session with others with the same interests. In other words, my hobby world would have been less fun if he went out of business. Now I live in a small town and although I’m no longer into rc airplanes I try, as much as I can, to buy locally to keep my small town active. Can’t always get stuff local, but I try. My 2 cents worth.
This is the right path. I’ve never understood why anyone would want to fly like they’re looking through one of these:
