Customized Tail Numbers

One of the small features I really like about MSFS is the ability to change the aircraft’s ID #. I was disappointed to learn when I used the newest TBM9 liveries update that it no longer supported this feature. To me that rendered many of the paint schemes I’d been using unusable unless I’m flying in a particular area.
Does this bother the rest of you that fly mostly GA, or is it just me being fussy?

The default TBM aircraft livery has been missing tail numbers from about SU5 I think, so is a very old problem. It was caused by Asobo having accidentially deleted the tail number placard from the default livery’s 3d model. Its surprising that Asobo haven’t fixed it since the TBM has received some attention recently, but just not to correct this problem.

But you can still fly with tail numbers and you just need to use one of Asobo’s alternate liveries. Asobo’s “01”, “Kenmore”, “Aviatiors Club” or “Test Pilot” liveries still have the tail number intact. If you don’t have these installed head over to the the Content Manager in MSFS, type TBM in the search bar, and install the liveries. Initially these additional liveries missed out on the animated doors when this feature was implemented on the default livery, but Asobo have corrected this now.

Unfortunately many stand alone liveries you might be able to download use the default livery as their source, so have the missing tail number. Any that have the tail number built into the textures won’t be affected, but also won’t have a user assignable tail number. It’s a relatively simple process for livery creaters to convert them across to use one of the 3d models with the tail number intact, if you know what you are doing. My black pack liveries for the TBM has been modified to use the alternate 3d models and have a working tail number. The lime gold and red liveries have the tail number on the vertical fin, while the silver, blue and orange liveries have the tail number on the rear fuselage. Note that in order for my liveries to work you must have Asobo’s “01” and “Kenmore” alternate liveries installed.
