Cyberpower Desktop Coil Whine Noise

New Computer becomes Project Computer…CyberPowerPc no Help!

Windows11, ASRock MB B760M-C
13th Gen Intel(R) Core ™ i7-13700F, 2100 Mhz 16 Cores, 24 Log. Proc.
Bios UEFI
1 TB, 16 GB ram, GeForce RTX 4060
Steps Taken…

Upgraded BIOS to current build (10/24)

The 4 case fans and 2 processor fans had 4 levels each adjustable in the BIOS (Silent, Standard/as delivered new, Performance and Maximum)
I tried each setting at idle computer and then entered MSFS 2024.

Silent or standard mode each used on all fans gave me loud chirping and squealing at idle and in the Flight Simulator under load.

Performance mode on all fans gave me coil whine while at idle but certainly at lower resonance and was completely gone while in the Simulator(No noise).

Maximum mode had no change from Performance mode.

So all fans were returned to Performance Mode.

As recommended, I changed a few specific CPU Power Settings from default “AUTO” to “SET LEVELS” IN THE BIOS. See link for reference.

Searching out all the loose and disconnected wire connections in this New CyberpowerPc Computer. (That Assembler should be fired…lol) That was ridiculous!

After all was completed, there was still a little chirping in the GPU only at idle while surfing the internet, staring at the screen or whatever. All else was quiet except for fan noise.

USEING AIR TURBULANCE TO DISRUPT COMPONENT VIBRATION

I FOUND THAT RUNNING AIR OVER THE GPU FROM THE SIDE TO TRY AND CONTERACT THE COMPONENT VIBRATION, AS IN THE PIC BELOW, COMPLETELY NEGATED THE BALANCE OF COIL WHINE THAT WAS LEFT. I have a couple of usb fans coming from Amazon to take it’s place.

When you listen to my CyberPowerPc Coil Whine, turn your volume to max… you’ll get the message.
You’ll notice that while I got all the fans running, I don’t have my RGB Light connections all found yet. This sound below is before I changed all my settings. And now no noise.

Before you adjust too much and waste a load of your time, have you raised this with Cyberpower? Is it still covered by a warranty or service agreement? If so, that’s where I would start.

I don’t know how much of it is as-supplied, but the wiring doesn’t look very tidy, the CPU cooler isn’t set up properly, the M2 SSD really needs a heatsink, and the single stick of non-matching RAM looks lonely. Another stick of exactly the same speed and timings would make a noticeable difference in MSFS. Make certain that it is the same speed and timings: VULCAN DDR5 DESKTOP MEMORY RED 64GB(2x32GB) 6400MHz CL34 - TEAMGROUP

I had an i7 in my first flight sim PC, and for the use it will get in MSFS 2020 or 24, a 120mm cooler is probably a bit marginal too, even with push/pull fans. That you’re having to open the case and blow air in from a desk fan is really poor.

I’ve never had an ASRock motherboard or Zotac GPU, but I’m pretty sure they shouldn’t have whine to the extent that it’s intrusive. Having the case open isn’t going to help this of course.

Hopefully the builder / seller can help you out. But if you’re prepared to get into software and hardware, there are definitely things you can do to help.

First, get a heat sink / heat spreader on that m2 SSD. There would have been one provided with the motherboard, but if not they are available aftermarket e.g: MC1 from be quiet!

Personally I’d use a bigger cooler on that i7 - you’ll get better performance and less noise with a 280mm radiator, and the 140mm fans shift a lot more air but are slower and therefore quieter than 120mm versions. I had one of these on my old i7:

Or, if you want to keep the rgb theme: PURE LOOP 2 FX | 280mm silent Water coolers from be quiet!

Note that the fans in use shouldn’t by themselves affect any coil whine, short of possibly masking the sound. If the whine is coming from components that are getting too hot, then of course fans and software will make a difference.

What are the CPU and GPU temperatures like, between doing nothing up to flying low level over LAX? If you’re not already using it, this is a good monitoring tool: DOWNLOADING HWMONITOR_1.55.ZIP | CPUID

The idea of 4 static fan speed settings sounds a bit strange. This app is free, and allows you complete control over all your PC’s fans, including those in the GPU: https://getfancontrol.com/

This tutorial covers downloading and setting up pretty well, but there are plenty of others you can watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4hp3v-kY5c

Good luck with it.

Well…turns out after much ado, it was the PSU after who knows how long that cheap fan they were using on the PSU wasn’t running to cool it off. That’s what all the whining was about. The PSU cooling fan hidden underneath stopped cooling…so…I brought the whole unit to the my local shop for oil change and lube…lmao, and went out for day before Christmas sale and got this.

Should have Cyberpower back couple days and My wife will have it for her NO MAN"S SKY.

BOOM!!!..The ACER NITRO loves MSFS 2024…Awesome.
