Greetings,
I attempted couple of one engine out procedures with the DA 62, and when I shut the engine down the prop is just windmilling. There are no prop controls in the DA 62 (part of the high level automation featured in the real plane), the system should auto feather the prop, but it’s not happening.
Maybe I’m doing something wrong, how I shut the engine down mid flight (flip the engine master switch to off), although I tested same on the ground, where the engine stops and the prop stops spinning.
And … after engine out, the prop keeps spinning. Doubt that it’s on a clutch
How are you shutting it down? According to the flight manual, turning off the Engine Master is supposed to feather the prop. I doubt the prop pitch is included in the visual model, but if it’s windmilling with the master cut off, then that’s a feature missing from the flight dynamics.
I use the engine master switch, the auto feather is most likely not part of the msfs DA 62 flight model. Is there any other plane which should auto feather the prop, maybe the Kingair, or the TBM?
The TBM is the only plane that I know of that visually shows feathering. As to whether any of the props actually have reduced when the prop is supposed to be feathered is another question. I think prop drag vs. pitch has been a sore point with MS sims going back at least to FS2002.
After the engine master is turned off Baron G58 visually windmills and then feathers when prop control moved all the way aft.
