Hi all! This post may be a little niche, but I hope it helps some folks. I struggled mightily to find a solution to control the unique “h” throttle lever of the TBM 930 and I’ve finally sorted it. It may not work for everyone, but have a look in case it does.
Gear: PC/MS Store version SU5.1 (1.7.35.0), no mods for the TBM 930, FlightSimStuff TPM (my hope is any throttle quadrant with positive and negative “stops” at the end of the axis travel will work).
With this configuration, you can use the Throttle axis to fully move the lever through the left track from max thrust down to taxi and into reverse thrust. You can use the Propeller axis to shift the lever between tracks. You can use the extremities of the Mixture axis to move the lever through the right track.
The settings:
- Thrust Axis - bind to “Throttle 1 Axis (0 to 100%)”
- invert axis (no)
- device input curve override (yes)
- sensitivity +/- (0)
- neutral (0)
- dead zone (.18)
- extremity dead zone (0)
- Propeller Axis - bind to “Propeller Axis”
- invert axis (yes)
- device input curve override (yes)
- sensitivity + (-1)
- sensitivity - (0)
- neutral (0.9)
- dead zone (0)
- extremity dead zone (0)
- Mixture Axis - unbound
- Mixture Axis fore extremity (Joystick Raxis Z+) - bind to “Increase Throttle”
- input repetition (off)
- Mixture Axis aft extremity (Joystick Raxis Z-) - bind to “Decrease Throttle”
- input repetition (off)
How to use it:
- The Throttle axis is straightforward. The dead zone makes it easy to hit Taxi and stay there. Adjust the dead zone as desired.
- The Propeller axis settings let you move the knob very slightly to swap tracks so there’s less wear on your quadrant. Occasionally when moved from right track to left, the lever may jump to max thrust. Just pull the lever back a little and try again. It’s just 2024 being buggy.
- The Mixture axis works by treating the extremes of the lever as buttons. To go from cutoff to low idle, you move the Mixture lever to its fore extreme and “tap” it against the housing then pull back slightly. To move from low idle to high idle, repeat the “tap”. To move from high idle to low idle, pull the Mixture axis to its aft extreme and “tap” it against its limit, and so on.
Here’s a clip of it working, showing no mouse usage needed:
Please chime in if this works with other quadrants. I can only test on what I have. Fancier quadrants may not need this setup, but I wanted to find a way to fly with what I already have. I hope this helps someone! Cheers.
