DC-3 Duckworks autopilots broken Oh no it's NOT!

I’m finding that the Duckworks mod has broken the autopilots in the 2020 DC-3. Both the Sperry Gyro-Pilot and the Retrofit with the GNS540/30. Can anyone get either of these to work with the Duckworks mod?

I’d really like to be able to Use the Sperry Gyro-Pilot but each time I turn it on with the Duckworks mod the plane dives into the ground. It is possible to reduce the rate it heads into the ground but that is all. Sad as the standard DC-3 now has a fully functioning Gyro-Pilot working as the original one did in the DC-3. The Duckworks mod does not try to emulate the Gyro-Pilot, it looks like it is trying to emulate a modern Autopilot by re-configuring the Gyro-Pilot controls.

Aside from the autopilot issue Duckworks is an excellent improvement mod for the DC-3.

I’d use the modern retro-fit version if that worked but it does not appear to. Maybe I’m doing something wrong  sPK

Are you engaging the Hydraulic lever behind you? Look over your right shoulder for a blue lever. It has been a while since I’ve flown it, but as I remember, you click it once to pull the handle out, then right-click it to move it forward. I do this before taxi since it really doesn’t affect any systems used for takeoff or approach/landing.

@tclayton2k I have just double checked and I engaged the Hydraulic lever i.e. moved it to the forward position where the hydraulic system is powering the Gyro Pilot. I have even turned the Automatic Pilot switch to ON below the central console.

I feel the Gyro Pilot is working because it does effect the pitch. Unfortunately its a choice between pitched down to pitched down further :upside_down_face:

Any way thanks for your input, sPK

I am having the same problem even with the blue lever forward. the autopilot will not turn on.
I have not tried the c-47 yet.

Is there a DC3 classic in the sim or is the C-47 it?

thanks

@Cajun1946 are you using the “Classic” (Sperry Gyro-Pilot) or “Retro-fit” (Modern GPS)?

As bought from the Market Place the Douglas DC-3 comes in two forms: “Classic” and “Reto-fit”. These are selected by choosing the appropriate livery (there are cargo versions as well again chosen by the livery).

There is a separate C-47 (and glider) but I am pretty sure it is just the “Classic” with a different livery. In fact if you look carefully inside the DC-3 there is an airframe tag that says it’s a C-47. This probably accurate because many C-47 were converted to passengers planes at the end of the WW2. sPK

In 2024 i only see a dc 3 retrofit. In 2020 the autopilot worked on both classic and retrofit. I will try again with a re download of the duckworks mod.
Thanks

I’m just on 2020 at the moment. I could not get the retrofit to work either.

The good news is that there is talk on the Duckworks discord that suggest a solution may be forthcoming. sPK

I’ve just completed a flight in the DC-3 with Duckworks mod in FS2020, no problems with the Retrofit autopilot in vertical or heading modes! I never try to use it in GPS or VOR modes as neither work I believe, might be wrong on this? You seem to have all the required cockpit controls set appropriately, so I can only think you have a conflict going on here, have you tried using an empty Community folder, apart from the Duckworks mod?

It’s good to know it works.

It was busy today so in my brief attempt to cure this I did clear the Community folder and re-loaded the Duckworks Mod. I was sure at some point recently I was working just with the Duckworks Mod so I also uninstalled all the DC-3 modules, using the Content Manager. I also uninstalled the C-47. I put the DC-3 modules back (not the C-47). Now the DC-3 works perfectly with the Duckworks mod, though I note you do need enough power for the Gyro-Pilot to work.

I’ll try and be a bit more scientific about adding the Mods to the Community folder to see if it was a conflict. As well as reinstalling the C-47.

Thanks again, sPK
