Having some trouble flying the DC-6. I’m able to take off OK, but soon after the plane goes into a dive and crashes each time. Can someone help?
Do you pull up too much? What is your airspeed during initial climb?
You have to start a shallow climb, this is not a jet.
If that’s not the problem are the engines running normal?
Is the gust lock removed? The gust lock prevents you from using the yoke and limits throttle movement of the inboard engines.
its called a studyaircraft, so yes you need to read the manuals, maybe see the vids.
Yeah I did that too. Now I’m reading the manual
Trying to locate the gust lock on the lower pedastal. Found a pic, but can’t find it on the plane.
its a bit hard to find the clickspot, the red thing , its not exactly small hehe
I had this exact same problem! Really frustrating when all I was trying to do was get the bird in the air.
Are you doing both the Before T/O and T/O (dry or wet) AFE checklist? I was only doing the T/O dry/wet checklist and the checklist couldn’t get past the first item - 30" of Manifold Pressure. It sounds like you get some power, but it’s not full power and that’s why you’re having a difficult time taking off. Even starting on an active runway, you have to do the before T/O checklist, after that the AFE will do some other things and then you’ll hear “Full Power”, then you shouldn’t have a problem taking off.
Either that or check your weight - below 87,000 lbs is T/O dry, above is T/O wet. You might be overweight.
Finally found the gust lock. Disengaged it and the plane flies much better!
It flew apparently but now you can actually control it!
Have fun!
Take two hours of your lifetime, look at the hq tutorials for starters on PMDG’s youtube channel and learn to fly it.
you need to keep a minimum speed of 160 kt at all times.
Top tip. If you spawn in already in the air, e.g. custom waypoint or a POI the gust lock will be engaged. Might want to reach down and disengage that
My gust luck seems to be stuck I’ve tried with the xbox controller and mouse. Im on a series x. I have no idea how to disengage it I watched YouTube video and it looks like the guy just clicked it that’s not working for me. Then again they did remove the dc6 from the marketplace for some reason. I just wish they would put it back with an update or patch cuz I spent $55, the most expensive plane in the game. If you want it to fly right you got to switch your flight model in general options from legacy to modern otherwise it will fly all over the place and go faster than anything you’ve ever seen. If a plane isn’t flying right go to general options check your flight model make sure it’s on modern. And you might have to do that in the main menu rather than in flight. I wish I could get this dc-6 to work. I don’t think any tutorials are going to help me with this if I could just disengage my gust lock I’d be happy. Maybe I’m missing something in the tablet? I don’t know
The AFE will disable it for you in the pre-flight stage (forget the actual title - but the one you run before take off).
There are known bugs with being able to control the aircraft on xbox - you may be suffering from this. It might be worth asking for a refund in the short term.
Legacy mode should only be used to support arcraft ported overf from FSX. All other aircraft should use MODERN flight model.
I’d have to disagree. I mean yeah in most cases you’re probably right but I use legacy mode for the su-57 and many other planes because I believe it flies more real. I use legacy whenever it’s possible otherwise I use modern only if it’s not possible to use legacy. Plus with modern you can’t adjust the five things under legacy. And nobody on Xbox is importing planes from FSX. And usually the only time I have to use modern is if plane was released on PC first and not Xbox and then eventually it came to Xbox and it doesn’t fly right on legacy at all like for example the ea7 optica will just do tumbles non-stop end over end over end in the air. So that’s a plane that I definitely have to fly modern on.
All Asobo aircraft are designed to use modern flight model
EDIT: See here (for example):
I really don’t care what specifies what or what they are intended to do or what somebody believes they are intended to do no offense, I care about the most realistic flying experience so whichever option legacy or modern gives me the best or most realistic control of the aircraft is the one I use. When this game first came to series X it took me an hour just to tinker with all the settings to get it the way I wanted for the first time. on a series x go fly the su-57 and the f14 on modern and then try them on legacy they fly much more realistic on legacy. Actually they’re quite sluggish in modern. And there are quite a few planes like that as well. Like I said I fly legacy whenever possible, only time I use modern is when the aircraft calls for it meaning when the plane doesn’t fly in legacy properly at all. Which usually turns out to be planes on the marketplace that were for PC first and then eventually came to Xbox.
Whatever floats your boat and if you choose to ignore advice that’s up to you. Just don’t be surprised or complain when you have issues.
EDIT: If you don’t want to listen to me, you could, of course, listen to the developers, who are pretty clear that the DC-6 should be using MODERN flight model:
