Just an FYI: The Logitech Flight Radio will work with the F-14. But!! it will NOT!!! power on until you are in MSFS and ready to fly, So don’t freak-out like I did. lol
Happy Flying
Hi everyone it has been a while since I have flown these fighter jets but has things drastically changed. Both the F14A and B on starting up the engines, once they finish their startup I lose all power. All instruments and my ATC shut down. I’m looking at black screens, even though the engines are purring.
Make sure you follow the Interactive Checklist as the start-up procedure is different now to what it was before - sounds like your generators are off. Other than that, no major changes though.
thanks for the quick response. I’ll give it a go. cheers
worked a charm thanks again. you were right generators were off.
Dean and Jack are solid. Always helpful.
All - well we got moved, better internet provider so game is downloaded (24 hours to get it all+ the other stuff inside of game) got my F-14 all loaded up and took her for spin last evening, love that plane. So Dean and Jack I’m back. Happy Flying to all. Love the new paint schemes.
FWIW-X-Plane 12 public beta will begin possibly end of September for those interested. Supposedly it comes stock with F-14D model. Believe all the avionics were upgraded in the D model, so it’s going to be a whole different breed of cat, not sure what weights changed between A-B and D.
Thanks. The D was basically the same as the B model but with new avionics and some minor external differences. Performance did not change, although the available payload was larger to accommodate more air-to-ground ordnance and associated sensors.
Liveries will be interesting for the D model.
Hey Dean, thanks for the update. If only could figure out the AP and nav systems, I could plan flights. I did get reminded that need to keep Airspeed up or plane just loses control, forgot that one and crashed into sea near PMDY. Since I opened my big mouth about PMDY lots more people playing around there. May have to move to another small place aint so busy. Anyway, love this plane. Thanks again.
This aspect has been greatly simplified:
Has been eliminated all those AP functions which were more typical to airliners like VNAV, FLC, etc. But remains alt hold, Vs hold, hdg hold, Nav, approach and autothrottle basically. ACLS system has been improved for ILS (just you don’t set the airspeed manually since is calculated by interpolation between gross weight and desired AOA). There’s no more magic button.
I rescue for you a post in where I explain some changes:
This video shows how to use the auto carrier landing system:
Thank you CNJ, it’s late here now, will try it out tomorrow. You guys rock. MS71
Just had a flight first time in ages set up altitude speed etc when i put lnav on it just spiraled round and lost altitude even tho it was set for 10k🤔 am i missing something or has the beta messed it up or is it me🤔
Hi, I have absolutely loved flying the F-14 and have had the aircraft for over half a year now on Xbox. I love the new update especially the FMC in the RIO position adding a bit of use to sit in that view which is pretty cool! I do have a few questions regarding the update and future features in general. One thing that i noticed with the cockpit lighting systems now is that they seem to be always on. Using the switches and sliders doesn’t seem to turn up or down the lighting. Of course it’s a small thing but just something I had noticed. I also find with the GPU installed and power on (Engines off) the plane avionics seem to turn off completely after a few minutes, and the only way to get them back on again is to start both engines and turn on both generators. I am of course not an F-14 pilot or pilot by any means and this could be fully intentional, but it does make the GPU seem a bit pointless at generating power for the aircraft. I also wanted to ask if there are plans in the future to add in the effect that both the F-16 and Concorde have when going supersonic in front of the aircraft. That being the silence due to the aircraft traveling the speed of sound (if there’s a term for that I don’t know it). I love the visual effects and I think they look fantastic but it would be nice if the silence was implemented as well. Regardless I love this aircraft and it’s by far my favorite plane to fly, alongside the Concorde!
Edit: I was also wondering if the HUD brightness could possibly be increased as in most daytime lighting it is almost impossible to see the HUD
Hi, glad you’re enjoying the Tomcats. Generators on the airplane are required for all power - not sure if this applies in real life. The GPU model is just a visual model, and does not directly add power to the airplane. I could not simply use the MSFS GPU system and animated truck, as not all airfields have them and this would heavily restrict where the F-14 could be used in the game, so went with my own visual model only.
HUD lighting is an on-going thing but I’m making progress. The F-14A and B did not have HUD glass though, it was projected onto the windscreen, so that may take some time. The D model was the only one that had a “modern” HUD set-up.
Perfect, thanks for the clarification!
after coming across a video on youtube been internet surfing on the subject of the RAF buying F14`s instead of the then delayed tornado ADV. Also Germany and Canada looking at the Tomcat too. i lived thru this time period and being a self admitting aircraft nerd never heard anything about it. i feel shame.
IF this had happened this could have been a bigger push for the D model and the way the RAF hang on to its aircraft, we could still be flying F14s today! makes you think.
If Canada bough them instead of the CF-18’s, they’d still be in the air until the mid 2050’s….
I don’t know how to react to that…
