DC Designs F-14A/B Tomcat Announcement & Discussion

I haven’t actually tried doing that to be honest, but I think that the best way to test it would be to extend the gear and then shut off the fuel to both engines - guaranteed dead-stick conditions

Glad you’re enjoying the airplane!

It most certainly is, go over 550-640 true airspeed, it’s a loud boom that’s very evident in third person

Agreed, definitely also there on the Xbox version.

Thanks all for the info !

One other item please - I thought I read somewhere that we can change the pilot and rio name on the side of the plane. If this is true are there some rough instruction I can use to do that - apologies if this has been written somewhere already

You can, but it’s part of the livery making process and has its own method (s). All decals required are in the paint kit, but some research will be needed on how to make your new livery package with your name on ( via the SDK ).

This can be done but sadly not on the Xbox version, livery editing only on the PC.

The plane flies great, and the AP is just fine. I’d wager I’m top 10% in hours flown on the sim. If it were bugged out, I’d surely know. Keep up the great work! If/when the functionality of the toggle switches changes, I’ll just learn them in a flight or two like I did these. No apologies needed.

Fly safe!

Dear F-14 Users,

As an old F-14 fanboy, I naturally bought the F-14 and am quite satisfied so far. Of course, it doesn’t come close to the F-14 from DCS, but it doesn’t have to for me.

However, I can’t manage to define Rockets as payload. In the
videos you can see the name of the rocket (Phoenix etc.) and the weight in lbs. In my case it just says Station 1, Station 2, etc.
I can enter the weight, but no rocket appears on the aircraft.

No idea what I am doing wrong. Do I have to activate anything in the settings ?

Thanks for the help

Keyshawn

If you bought through the Marketplace, you won’t be able to have visual weapons models.

If you bought through JustFlight, entering the weight for each station (190lbs for a Sidewinder, 1,000lbs for a Phoenix, etc). will make the models appear (and will dramatically affect weight and flight dynamics).

Thanks a lot for your Answer.

Now I know the issue. I bought it through the Marktplace…
Sad I doesnt know it before I get it.
Is there a solution or chance to get it also with my version ?

greetings

We cannot change the Marketplace versions unfortunately - Microsoft rules. You could ask for a refund based on the missing weapons ( a valid argument in my opinion ) and then use the refund to purchase the F-14 from Just Flight instead, where you will then have the weapons active.

I wanted my F-14 to be as far away as possible from the DCS version and be accessible for everybody both in functionality and in price - sounds like it’s doing its job well.

just wondering, what do you mean by as far away from DCS in functions? I mean, beside the A/P, missing weapon and the addition of internal battery, do you mean changing the flight model to something easier to fly or?

No, we like our airplanes to be highly realistic in terms of aerodynamics, and we like to include any notable quirks of an aircraft type ( compressor stalls, flat spins etc in the F-14A ). What I like to avoid is anything too intense systems-wise, and to keep costs at something reasonable ( so how much development time is spent on the project, how much unique coding / sound / features etc ). DCS aircraft are awesome, but then of course for full modules they’re also expensive. In those senses - price, system fidelity, development time - I stay as far away from them as I possibly can.

Dean, do you think, it’s possible, in the future, to modofy the cockpit view ??
Something like this would be awesome.

The simulator itself has keys that can alter sitting position, or you can edit the camera.cfg file to suit ( Viewpoint entry ). Everybody wants different things so currently the viewpoint is at the most sensible mid-range position.

Tried the Tomcat today and the wings are working with auto sweep! They did not previously. I am going to test each model and see if it’s a bug on one of them.

Love this jet!

Wing sweep is slower to activate at low altitude as it’s based on Mach airspeed - just like the real aircraft. So you have to be at Mach 0.96 for full sweep at low altitude ( 640 knots or so ) but at higher altitudes they will sweep back more quickly due to the relationship between Mach and knots indicated in the thinner air high up.

Not sure if this is a MSFS thing or an Third party dev thing, but would it be possible to somehow allow display the F-14 models or at least a low poly version of it for those that do not own the aircraft?

It’s disappointing to form up on people only to hear they see you as a general aviation aircraft.

This is an MSFS thing, not specific to any particular 3rd party developer. The other day I saw something that the ID plate said was an H135 helicopter pointed nose-down and hovering/drifting slowly over Ford Island in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii but since I don’t have that aircraft, the sim showed it as a Beech Bonanza, lol.

I’ve seen the same with random planes like the Milviz Corsair, the Flanker, etc. - any plane you don’t have installed will show as some random generic model or worse, sometimes they are completely invisible.

It can show out of stock when it replies on keycodes to activate the product. When they are all used it’ll be Out of Stock.

It’s all sorted now and the dollar price on the JF site matches what is showing on the dev site.
