Very well said sh… is the word especially the money you put into the simming lessons have not been learnt from the 2020 issues
Ok I’ll take a look at control setup.
There was no way around streaming. The PD version has 95 airplanes and 160 airports. Now add every world update and assume the next 4 years will continue like the last 4 years. And quickly we are looking at 1 TB install size of the base game. Without 3rd party addons. That’s fine for some enthusiast but the vast majority wouldn’t accept that.
With streaming you can just start flying without any need to manage files, move stuff around buy a new drive and so on. It is simply more accessible and user friendly.
At least in theory… Everyday we can observe how this system doesn’t work. IMO a part of that is the absence of a cache for everything. Let me set it to 100 GB and I don’t have to redownload the same ■■■■ airport and plane every single time I start a flight
I agree with this. Never understood the modern fad of calling for people (anybody) to resign if they are anything less than 100% perfect or don’t align with their ideals. Mobs with pitchforks chanting ‘burn the witch’ have really made a comeback over the last two decades.
What I don’t agree with is a lack of basic mutual respect, from anybody. To brush a mess under the carpet and seemingly ignore what is actually happening whilst publicly praising the teams and their achievements seems foolish, that invites resentment.
Despite the bad release, people are not dumb and can see what you’re trying to do and it’s quite the vision, but if you cannot at least acknowledge the multitude of issues, especially with VR which is a wreck, probably best to say nothing at all in my opinion.
Personally, I would be working with the community closer because let’s face it, we are now your beta testers so you can work the problem and fix what will be a great product. As you definitely already will know, everything goes a lot more efficiently if you have everyone on board.
Thanks for your reply…
Who was talking about Jorg had to resign?
For now the best he can do is acknowledge that his customers are (to say the least) a bit disappointed about many very time consuming shortages and state that the customers are heard.(in stead of giving them the feeling everybody is enjoying MSFS2024).
Why do you react in such a dramatic way?
I am happy you do not care about the shortcomings you face in the sim, my message was to express the increasing astonishment I experienced reading Jorgs message.
Dear Delta 2k5,
Thanks for your reply, I suppose your are a “Tech Alpha insider” and I can follow your statement.
When your reply came from Jorg or one of his spokesmen I would accept it and I would continue making the best of it and wait for the sim to evolve.
(not to downgrade your best meanings here)
As a businessmen myself i can follow the strategy selling the product now, but I was never good in politics and recognize it immediatly with others. That behaviour is not my cup of tea. When you make a mistake, step forward with it and solve it…thats the best way to calm down customers.
The binding and settings of the controls is not exactly what you say, making your own new profile creates one with all the default settings within it, some have 9 conflicts that you copy also…causing things to not work. The only way of preventing it is copy the default settings into a new profile, delete all settings within that copied profile, copy that empty profile to another new profile and then save your own settings (so without any default settings in it).
Six days ago I found the UI extremely difficult, but now found my way in it and you get used to it, like in every other new product.
Thanks again!
Ben
Hi Ben, glad to see you feel more comfortable with the mapping setup now
I just want to point out that this “badge” does not mean much - I’m just a normal user and don’t have any link to MS/Asobo. I only participated as an alpha build tester back in 2020s closed alpha and on the public technical alpha of MSFS 2024
However my real life background is that I’m working as a consultant for QA engineering/test management for a living, just not in gaming but mostly in agile banking/pharmacy/retail software development projects which is the reason for me providing my two cents here and there
I completely understand you here and I also think Jörg Neumann would love to just do that, however I think to do this he wants to collect Information first and would like to present something more meaningful, so something like “we have a plan, we are moving forward with xyz”.
As todays stream was cancelled I think they are not yet at this point, however as also actions speak for themself we’ll have to remind ourselfs that one week ago MSFS2024 was basically not even able to log one in properly while for most around regular flights are now working.
This is not an excuse for the remaining issues and that some people also still face crashes or cannot launch the sim but a sign they keep continuously working on fixing things.
Some of the first party developers also already told they got some fixes for their aircraft ready to be published which I consider a good thing after “just” one week
KLM365 …I also find the message from Jorg very insulting to be honest the whole sim is a mess and he just does not see it. DISGRACE Jorg. us Simmers deserve better and not have insults thrown at us because thats what you have done. …KLM365 Regarding the set up Im having terrible problems, why have they messed this setting up a Nightmare.
Thanks again…In the end it will be a great sim, as with MSFS2020 wich also took a long time to settle.
Try to copy the default profile, thereafter delete all (default) settings in it, then save this empty profile and start building settings and bindings new with this empty profile (wich you can rename to your liking), that should do the trick.
In VR though your buttons surely are limited as the interaction is with a mouse?
I’ve looked at the control settings. From my perspective as a professional software developer:
- The Asobo devs have considered ALL combinations of control settings
- The system allows complete flexibility for each aircraft
- The system allows sharing of settings that affect types of plane - like jets, single prop that we create
- The system allows sharing of settings that affect all planes - like QuickView Left
Each sim value belongs to predefined classes: General (e,g, camera), Airplane (e.g. elevator), Plane specific (e.g. 152 G1000 Heading)
plane is one of: Airplanes, Lighter than Air, Helicopter, Glider.
Anything is possible. For example the mouse wheel is elevator trim only on the 747, the Thrustmaster Airbus left engine on/off can be heater on/off on a hot air balloon or engine 1 on Airbus, function keys F1 to F12 can be anything you imagine. Like F1 to F4 could be engine start/stop on the A380 or four flap values on the Cessna.
All this flexibility comes at a cost - the user interface is initially quite confusing. However when you understand Asobo’s system it starts to make sense.
My recommendation? We should start a user topic on 2024 control settings
There is already one here…
I was just thinking, I wish everyone on the development team would get a hold of a copy of flight simulator 2004, and FSX, and play them for a both for a week to understand what we loved about those simulators. I wish they would look into the flight training offered back in the day with the videos from King Schools or later on the flight instruction from instructor Rod Machado. What Microsoft and Asobo is doing is cool but it has lost a lot of that Microsoft Flight Simulator “ as real as it gets” feel.
I’m 64, retired and am a Simmer.
A ‘Simmer’ is a user who desires reality and accuracy.
I was an Engine and Vehicle tester at the company who supplied Triumph Motorcycles the Fuel Injection system.
I am full aware of the way Microsoft work, and of Computing system architecture.
I took a few fying lessons in the early nineties ( Before Garmin ).
The Author of the lead post in this thread will agree, every detail of vegetation is not critical to flying an aeroplane.
What IS critical for a Flight Simulator is realistic and accurate ATC and AFIS.
This part of the ‘GAME’ is woefully lacking.
No attempt has been made to improve it.
It has been up to seperate suppliers to construct ATC Packages to compliment this ‘GAME’.
My message to Jorg is "Get ATC and AFIS together’.
This could be a false memory, but I am sure that prior to the release of FS24, Jorg did say that the ATC was something that would be improved following the release of the game.
I won’t hold my breath.
Man hours were wasted writing code for leaves on trees.
They should have been spent getting ATC and small field AFIS realistic.
some of us have been saying it all along
Assuming people responsible for trees and vegetation would be suited to developing ATC is questionable. IIRC WorkingTitle was once mentioned on the topic of improving ATC. I have never heard any timeframe though.
i think you may be missing the point
the trees and vegetation guy is there, sitting on the chair where they should’ve hired an atc and ifr flight guy
