I am totally frustrated. I have owned FS2020 since October of last year. I owned every other version of FS other than X. I have always enjoyed the Flight Sim experience, but this latest chapter has me pulling out what little hair I have left. It seems most people had similar issues with initial install, huge downloads and stalled decompression etc. I managed to live through that a d finally had a working version of the Sim. And along came the big update a few weeks ago. … I have tried all the usual tricks to get this thing up and running again , but no luck. I finally decided to reinstall, knowing it would take forever. And here we go again, getting stuck on various decompression. Sometimes a restart would help, but my poor machine has been “restarted” more times than I could count …
And still I can find no definitive answer.
My system is more than sufficient to run this program, and I have plenty of storage
Help me!
How long do you wait before restarting when decompressing? With really big basefiles this can take a long time, but eventually it will continue
If one decomp sits for more than an hour, I will first try just restarting the app. Then I try whole comp restart. Then I usually delete problem file and start Sim again. But of course this leads to downloads starting all over …
I had a similar issue when I was downloading it onto my external drive so I downloaded it to my main drive and it was able to decompress the files.
Just thinking about this.
The download program will download the data to your PC.
Your PC will then run a Decompression Program (7-Zip Gzip)
to decompress the data.
This is done within your PC.
For my FS2020 download, I watched it and even for the large files,
the decompression would only take 30 seconds (or less) at most.
I don’t know if My Store is downloading the decompression software and then using it or if it is using the decompresion software that
is on your PC.
Decompression should be a local task.
Maybe it is being done from the cloud.
Anyone know?
It’s a local task. I’ve watched the download process, and for a given archive it will download a multipart archive first. Then when all parts are downloaded it extracts them, then delete the multi-part archive. It can’t decompress them until all the files are downloaded. I guess it could start, but would be forced to pause when the last file in the first part cannot be extracted until the second part of the archive is downloaded, and so on.
What “zip” software do you have installed?
I am using WinRar
Sorry, but I’m at a loss.
What I would do is pick a very large file and use WinRar to compress it and then decompress it to the drive your FS2020 is on to see what happens.
24 hours long enough?
I finally have everything installed and working!
Multiple restarts and downloads.
Now I need to get everything the way I like it …
Thanks for the help.
I have been attempting to install FS2020 for longer than I care to divulge. CONSTANT stalling on decompression (fs base files). I’ve tried everything listed on these boards. Was deleting the offending file and allowing the sim to re-download and decompress again. Would manage the offending file and before too long another one was causing hang ups. It never ends. According to Steam FS2020 has been “running” 70+ hours so far. Not ONE flight. I have a brand new computer and I’ve not had any issues with other software or games. What a sh*t show this installer is. My poor machine has been rebooted so many times and running for hours and hours and hours.
I have gigabit fiber internet but downloads don’t seem to be having issues despite maxing out at 70mbps. It’s this ■■■■ compressing BS.
