DECONSTRUCTED - The Great Barrier Reef Bush Trip (SPOILERS) - COMPLETE

I extracted the Flight Plan for the Great Barrier Reef Bush Trip so I could fly it using my choice of plane, time, and weather. I chose the Vertigo since she can do it all, high/low, fast transit speed and good range. For Weather, I appropriately chose Coastal Winds which gives nice clarity and just a touch of wave action.

Rather than a series of posts for each leg, I just took the whole trip in a few chunks. two to three at the most - unfortunately I’m short on time these days. I’ll just post a series of select images culled to show some of the more significant things I saw on the way.

SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t taken the Bush Trip and want to do so on your own, I recommend not reading this thread any further past this post. You will see landmarks, checkpoints and tips that will likely make your own execution of the journey less fulfilling.

For the rest of the folks who don’t have the time or patience to sit through the 406 NM journey and want to see what’s in it, especially since World Update 8 greatly improved the region’s scenery, this thread is partly for you.

Is this still in the sim/game? I couldn’t find it, but it could just be me lol :¬)
Do the bush trips include the scenery, as I went looking for the Barrier Reef east of Mackay, then south east and back in to Colins Reef and Herbert Creek and it was impossible to find any reef out there, just ocean :¬(
I will try further north next time.

It should be - there wasn’t any regression on WU Australia to my memory.

I extract the .PLN file from the Bush Trip and load that into Little Nav Map, review for any oddities then re-export out - load that into FS2020. I find I don’t need to edit anything, and it helps to keep an eye on the Moving Map in LNM while I’m flying to see where a particular POI is.

It’s strange, I can see the dir - I just can’t see it in the bush trips splash screen.
There are 56 bush trips directories, but only 54 links in the splash screen, so I guess 2 aren’t on it.
EDIT: Ah, OK … silly me, it’s listed as “North Queensland Coast” - I was looking for Great Barrier Reef to match the dir name :grimacing:

I was just doing an exploratory, seeing if the bit closest was modelled, before tracking out all that way to the rest of it to the north east of Paul Reef - it looks amazing on Google earth !
