I am planning a dedicated MSFS PC build to go with a TCL (or other brand) 55" 4K 120hz TV and a NLR sim cockpit seat. After some research and playing on pcpartpicker I have come up with 2 builds (Intel/Nvidia and an all AMD) within my budget of $2000-$3000.
Intel/Nvidia Build:

AMD Build:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2hXKL9
My current PC has a ryzen 5800x3d and rx 6700 XT and runs MSFS at 1440p pretty well on high settings. But I want to migrate MSFS away from this PC to its own dedicated sim setup. Any feedback or ideas are greatly appreciated.
The AMD build is better only because the 7900xtx has more vram which msfs needs. It’s faster than the 4070ti super too and will do better @4K.
A 4090 is probably out of your budget? That is currently the best GPU for 4K high refresh rate display.

Its not even close - your AMD system is much better all around with the x3D processor and 7900XTX w/24GB Vram. You could save yourself over $125 by going with an air cooler as the 7800x3D doesn’t run very hot at all. I’ve got an 7900x3d with a Peerless Assassin 120 and the CPU never gets above 80c.

I have heard great things about the AMD parts you are looking at, although I can only speak to the Intel version. I just built a very similar system and I’m really happy with the performance so far. If I would do it over, I would have gone for the 4070 TI Super vs the 4070 Super which I did. Having the additional VRAM is invaluable for MSFS as mentioned.
I will also agree with the post above that you could go with an air cooler. I have the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE and my 14700k never gets above 80c either. I have same ram and similar MB, so I would imagine the performance would be slightly better than mine.

Your AMD build is pretty close to my ideal build, only mine would have more Be Quiet! and G.Skill over your Corsair.
I also would prefer a Red Devil XTX if only for ARGB and backplate customization options. Not saying XFX is bad (my current XFX 7800XT is doing quite well), just personal preferences. After using the XFX card, I may actually go with the XTX version to keep more silver aesthetics. Just sucks that it’s such a long card. I will say if you go with it, you’ll want to customize the fan curve unless you want extra immersion from the jet engine noises its fans will make at full power. I have mine limited to 75% max RPM, but undervolting keeps temps low enough to rarely get even that fast.

Btw, a 4070Ti Super is on par with the 7900XT. The 4080 is on par with the 7900XTX. So, with the 7900XTX you will be getting a more powerful gpu with far more Vram.

I chose the 5000D case since I thought I might need a 360 aio top mount (I have the 4000x on my current pc and had a 360 mounted on the front and it only lasted a year, now it has a 240 top mount with no issues). Do you think a 4000D case would fit the CPU cooler you suggested and the 7900xtx?
Yeah I was looking at the specs for both and the price to performance for Nvidia vs AMD and the ball seems to still be in AMD’s court. I usually swap back and forth between nvidia/amd intel/amd builds but my last 2 builds have been all AMD. The last intel/nvidia build I did was the i5-3570k ivy bridge years
Yeah, The PC budget is the largest but I also want to get a good 55" TV with a fairly good refreshrate of at least 120hz. Even if I just run at 60hz I still have a bit of overhead. I don’t know if that really matters when it comes to refresh rates though. Then the next most expensive will be the next level racing sim seat.
My wife gave me a corner in the office so I’m going to try and take full advantage of the space
Also want this thing to be future proof for MSFS24
You definitely want the 120Hz TV/monitor with the high end PC you are about to build.

AMD Build rev.1
So I made a revised AMD build list. I replaced the cooler with the Thermalright PS120, Dropped the PSU to an 850 watt, added another 3 pack of af120 fans, and upgraded the RAM to 64 GB. I removed Windows 11 from the list as that can be purchased cheaper elsewhere.
I could opt out of the Corsair 5000D case and go for the smaller 4000D (if the 7900xtx will fit). I can also get the core version without the RGB fans and get non RGB case fans. This will be under a desk anyways so no need to be flashy. Any other case recomendations would be great too, at leas mid tower that will fit the 7900xtx. Nothing fancy really needed, I only picked what I know and have been building with for the last 2 decades. Though the Fractal pop air case looks pretty nice
My main desktop is in a 4000X case and I just set the fans to green and leave it.
The Peerless Assassin should be ok but the 7900XTX (or any long Nvidia 4000 series/AMD 7000 series gpu) may be problematic. Even if it did fit it would probably be tight and I would recommend more room for proper airflow.
My personal recommendation would be the Lian Li Lancool 216 RGB. It’s got plenty of room without being too big, airflow is great, it’s quiet and at a better price. Oh, and yeah, it’s the one I have and my 7900XTX fits no problem.

You can also get a non-RGB version if you want.

I can’t view your updated parts list as it is private.
I do recommend at least a 1000w PS and you definitely want to get no more than 2 sticks of memory. Both AMD and Intel based systems memory controllers struggle with 4 sticks of ram at high speeds. I would also recommend that you get memory that is on the approved QVL of your motherboard to ensure compatibility. You can find the memory compatibility list on your motherboards web site.
Edit: I noticed your cpu cooler was the Thermalright PS120 and I belive this is the Phantom Spirit 120 (PS120) and not the Peerless Assassin 120. Upon looking at it closer it may just be a more recent version as it has 7 heat pipes vs the Peerless Assassin’s 6.
Forgot to make it public. That Lian Li case looks really nice! You are right, I forgot to check the QVL.
I was able to see your build - thx.
If you go with the Lian Li Lancool 216 case it comes with 2 huge 160mm intake fans in the front that are very quiet and 1x140mm exhaust fan in the back. I think you’ll really only need 1 more exhaust fan for the top rear of the case.
…and don’t forget the cpu thermal paste!! I highly recommend this one:

If fan size matters, there’s also the Fractal Torrent with two 180mm fans. It’s currently the best cooling case in the Gamers Nexus testing, and I think their overall pick last year. Bit pricy, but can fit massive video cards and I really like the front.
I would also suggest sticking with the 1000W PSU to make sure it can handle transient spikes ok. Those are power spikes that are so quick that most power measuring software can’t detect them, but can run up to double the card’s rated power. The Be Quiet! Straight Power 12 1000W psu is my likely next upgrade, which is also 80+ Platinum rated at only $10 more than the 850W Corsair you have listed.
I’m also curious why the extra fans? Chances are they won’t make a big difference unless you are needing something for a radiator (which you don’t have on the build update).

I’m reworking my list and looking at different options based on suggestions. Likely all the RGB will be removed from this build. Just finding out that the xfx 7900 xtx with the z-bracket installed takes it up to about 370mm length from 345mm is another factor for the case. Fan size itself doesnt matter but the one case @WingWarper1 linked and the fractal design pop air non RGB cases looked neat.
Appreciate all the feedback :)_
Always get a GPU with 16GB video memory or more. And, get a CPU with a very high single core score. For ram get 32gb or more with fast clock speeds.

Yeah that Z-bracket design of theirs is a bit wack with it being longer than the card itself. Lol. Mine didn’t come with it, nor would I have used it anyway. I got an RGB support bracket from Amazon, though partly because I wanted to even out the light in my case. It was pretty dark under the GPU. Mine’s on my desk, and American Truck Simulator has RGB effects, so there’s more use than simply looking pretty. I.e. If I get a speeding ticket, all my RGB lights will flash red and blue. XD
