Dedicated MSFS PC Build (Ideas and recommendations)

The thing with the auto oc options is you can either oc the core, oc the VRAM, or undervolt. It won’t auto adjust all 3 at the same time even though there are gains to be had from each. If I were to only use the auto function, I’d opt to undervolt, which will also result in higher clock speeds due to how AMD’s boosting algorithm works.

As I also mentioned a few days ago as well. Those XFX fans running full blast are LOUD. Lol.

I’m putting together an exact match in spec computer, I was going research best driver support and tuning software for the GPU to pick the card brand

Trying to find the closest match to what would translate to future enhancements as Asobo streamlines Xbox code.

I believe I did each one individually and noted the OC values and then adjusted those values together to come to a combined OC. I also adjusted the fan curve to kick in the fans a little earlier to stave off the heat generated. After I settled in on the GPU OC and fan curve I wanted I then saved it to a profile as for the most part I only use it for a few games and all others I use default settings.

I found this youtube video helpful in fine tuning my OC/UC.

That guy is pretty well known for AMD tuning. I found my OEM fan curve is tuned pretty well, so I just set a 75% max speed on the GPU fans. Since I have a Be Quiet case, I have those fans on an aggressive curve to max out early. They are true to their name and barely audible while keeping everything supplied with a lot of fresh air and lower case temps.

You’ll find that in the AMD Adrenalin driver, AMD does a great job of providing overclocking/underclocking tools to fine tune your AMD gpu. You are also able to save your tuning parameters to a profile and switch between profiles for different games. This level of tuning is available for not only my 7900xtx but also other 7000 series gpu’s (not sure if all the parameters are available for all 7000 series gpu’s). The pic below shows the various parameters available to tune and what I’ve done with my 7900xtx.

Hi all,
Looking to upgrade my CPU. Can you give me some advice if the attached photo of my build is acceptable for MSFS '24?
I’m not up to date on all the new component’s out there. Last time a Built my own was in the early 90’s.. :joy:
Any intel would be greatly appreciated.!
Thanks

Whilst my knowledge of intel systems is very limited now (prefer AMD) I wonder if:

  • your PSU is a high enough wattage
  • you should go for a higher memory speed than 5200

I note also that you are buying HDD storage. Hopefully you won’t be running FS20 or FS24 on this otherwise I would expect there to be quite a performance hit.

Are you also aware that there were recently issues with the 14000 intel cpus? Supposedly the issues were sorted by Intel but there again you have to wonder a bit if the issues have really been fully sorted. Hopefully if nothing else you should be getting a really great deal on this cpu.

Arrow Lake will soon launch too. It doesn’t excite me personally but maybe take a look at these first before pulling the trigger?

Also, not sure if you are interested in an alternative AMD platform but if you could be just to let you know that the AMD 9800x3d cpu is rumoured to launch on Nov 7. Everything points to that maybe being (potentially) the best gaming cpu to date.

As I said, I know very little now of Intel systems so I can’t help you any further. Best of luck though :slightly_smiling_face:

All good points. About all I can add is that 2024 is advertised as bring able to handle multi-threading much better. Depending on how that goes, it may change the recommendations in favor of Intel, but you still can’t really go wrong with an x3d based CPU for gaming.

Price seems very expensive for the components you get (assuming $US).

Never posted the results of my build.

I ended up with the Corsair 5000D case on sale.
Msi tomohawk motherboard x670E (on sale)
Ryzen 7 7800x3d
64GB 6000mt ram
Rx 7900XT
1 1TB Samsung nvme (os and apps)
1 4tb Samsung nvme (msfs).
Total cost after all sales and rebates was $2100.

Runs msfs flawlessly with some tweaks.

Ran msfs 24 alpha flawless on all ultra settings. Remember that a lot of the world for msfs 24 is streamed too. But it actually ran better then 2020
