Hi
What are the main advantages of a32nx mod over the default a320neo?
Thanks
Well, to picture it: imagine you have two cars. And one has all things needed to drive, which means a seat, a steering wheel, a gas pedal and a brake. And the other one is a car as you know it from real life: handbrakes, gearshifter, radio, lights, indicators, speedo, air conditioning, reading lights, navigation system, etc. etc. And it behaves more like a real car (flight model).
I really don’t want to blame Asobo. They’re doing a great job. The vanilla A320 is not that bad (as I described above). But they intentionally decided to have more planes on the sim, with the lack of detail, and leave the more detailed modeling to third party developers. And that’s an understandable decision.
I wasn’t super crazy about the mod at first. I didn’t really understand all the hype and fuss about it. Maybe this is because I’ve always been a casual simmer who is content with flying the default aircraft rather than download a bunch of add ons and third party aircraft to make it ultra realistic.
Up until November, I had been flying mainly the default A320. Then came the USA update which really broke the aircraft and made it unflyable for me. My only other options were to either not fly until a later update or install the FBW mod and try it out. So I installed it and flew it for about a week, but I didn’t think it was for me and obviously it was different from the default, so I wasn’t used to it. It also caused a drop in FPS for me whereas the default ran super smooth on my PC with no stutters. So I deleted it and went a whole month of not flying. About a week or so ago though, the default A320 was still causing me issues. I had also been informed that the latest version of the mod fixed the FPS issues also. So I gave the mod another try.
Long story short, here I am today really enjoying the FBW mod now. It’s been working flawlessly for me this past week and it was simply a matter of getting used to the new aircraft and flight model. Yes, it has more enabled functions than the default and that’s probably the major difference. Of course, I still don’t use many of the functions in the mod. However, as posted above, the flight model is also much more realistic (at least it feels that way since I’m not a pilot IRL) compared to the default A320.
A couple examples of this:
Taxiing in the default A320 feels like taxiing through quicksand and requires a lot of thrust to get moving and keep moving. The mod simulates taxiing much more realistically since it doesn’t require much power if any at all to get moving. Again, this is realistic behavior if you ever notice on aircraft in videos or IRL. I had complained about this issue in the default since the launch in August.
The mod feels more realistic in terms of climb performance and aerodynamics. In the default, I noticed it feels very underpowered and it’s nearly impossible to climb past FL300 since the USA update. This was something that made the default unflyable for me. The mod climbs much more realistically and it reaches higher altitudes just fine, say around 20 minutes after takeoff which is pretty realistic. Also, for some reason, in the default A320, retracting the flaps caused the aircraft to lose altitude quickly and extending them caused the aircraft to climb at least 1,000 feet like nothing. This was another big gripe for me and I’m happy to say this behavior is not present in the mod. Retracting or extending the flaps in the mod doesn’t cause dramatic altitude gain or loss. Also, fuel burn is more realistic in the mod.
So there you go. Honestly, like they say, I can’t see myself going back to the default again. I really have come around to the FBW mod and remember, it’s continuously improving whereas the default, well I think it breaks more than gets fixed. Hope this post helped!
I agree with the comments above. The question is do you want realism or simplicity. The mod provides much more capabilities to the aircraft (and still more to come) than what Asobo has provided. Hence why everyone wants it absorbed into the default A320.
