Exactly, in safe mode community and marketplace addons are not loaded. So if you’re still having the issue, unfortunately at that point I don’t know what else to check .

No worries! I am very grateful for your help. At least I now know that the problem is neither with any of my controls hardware, or from any of my MSFS add-ons. It’s narrowing down the field.

Are any of the Assisted Piloting options enabled? From the Welcome screen: Options | Assistance Options | Piloting

As further information, this probem does not occur on any other MSFS default (eg C172 Skyhawk) or add-on aircraft (eg JustFlight Piper Arrow III). On both these aircraft control assignments to hardware controllers, and mouse click or drag functions, all work fine. So the problem is limited to the DA40NG.
